(More customer reviews)I recently bought the Hoover Windtunnel U6436-900 (TurboPower 7600) to replace my old Hoover Windtunnel U6445-920 (Mach 6.9) which was "giving up the ghost" after 6 years of flawless service.I could have had the old vacuum fixed for less than half of what the new one cost, but I decided to turn back the clock and invest in a new vacuum.

The new U6436 is almost exactly the same as my old Hoover except that it stores tools on the back of the vacuum and now has room up front for the power attachment.Hoover Windtunnel is definitely as loud as ever too.That's because it's actually doing something.It's amazing how much suction these vacuums have when the bag is empty.By the time the bag is full, I estimate that suction decreases by 25%...which is still more than adequate by the way.

I compared the U6436 side-by-side with the Eureka TheBoss 4870GZ that my inlaws have.The Hoover beats the Eureka pretty solidly in power and ease of push thanks to the self propel feature. It really glides along like it is on iceskates or something...almost effortless.Since the Hoover costs 33% more, this is to be expected.The Eureka is quieter, and that's about it.

The product manual that came with the U6436 indicates that it has a 2 year warranty.I've seen conflicting reports on this on various other sites, but it is definitely 2 years...

A famous consumer magazine ranks this vacuum near the top, and I agree.I have owned Hoover Windtunnel for quite awhile now, and they are reliable and do a great job.The bags are cheap too, usually around $7-$8 for 3 of them.

In short, I highly recommend this vacuum.

Bissell 37601 Lift-Off Revolution Turbo Upright Bagless Vacuum Review

(More customer reviews)An upgrade to my last Bissell (Cleanview Deluxe),this one is even better....was ONSALE for $160, and well worth it.
Removeable canister capability is easy and makes this vac so much more versitile...such as taking out to your car or for carpeted steps. I really love the user friendly design of these Bissell vacs....never complex, and I don't feel I need a manual to understand or operate.
Super suction...and the brushes are so powerful, it almost feels self propelled as you push forward.
The 'telescoping' function of the extension wand was a nice upgrade, although it does takes a little time getting used to it...also the new dual-headed brush tool is an inovative idea i like.
Another really nice upgrade is the on/off brush power button...and the vac is now smart, even when brushes are powered ON, they wont rotate till you step on the release pedal AND pull the handle down towards you.
I also noticed you can now pull the handle down literally to the FLOOR without the front of the vac lifting up...this means being able to roll further under couches/tight spots.

If I had to give CONS :

1) There are 3 filters...1 HEPA and 2 foam...the foam filters in particular should be cleaned once a month,as directed..but I check even more often (due to high traffic/pets)... They can get pretty dirty relatively fast, and although u may not notice any loss of suction,I assume cleaning these filters often will always improve performance...... Its not hard to do, they are basically foam sponges u can rinse clean, and they dry pretty quick.

2) The vac when all together as 1 unit, is pretty heavy. Doesnt bother me, but may be an issue to some. My wife immediately noticed the weight... The canaster vac, when separated, is easy to carry with its handle, but some may still find even this a little heavy as well.
In my opinion, the weight is due to good construction and a strong motor. I think its worth it.

3) Seems like a lot of new vacs come with some form or version of a 'turbo brush' attachment. I'm not a fan of these...the brushes are SUCTION driven, NOT motor driven. Its a gimmick tool.. I prefer the simple NON turbo brush tool that come with this vac, and I let the suction power (and a little up/down motion of my own) do the work. I keep the turbo brush permanantly removed from the handle altogether. To me its just added dead weight.

4) only 1 improvenment I could think of now is a retracteable cord....

Hoover S1361 Compact Canister Vacuum Review

(More customer reviews)I have had this vac for a year now and I need to replace it.PROS: Great suction and telescoping wand.Cleaning head for rug and floor are pretty decent.I like the way the vac head could clip on to the vac which kept the hose upright and in place which is a plus while in closet.CONS:Big one:The metal wand constantly falls off.There is no way to make the metal telescoping wand stay attached to plastic hose.This is a problem for all Hoover small cannister vacs. 2nd Con:Today the retractable cord retracted but must have gone off its track inside vacuum and now I can't get the cord to unwind.I have looked the whole casing over and there is not a screw in sight that would let you gain access to fix the cord.3rd and my fault, used the vac to clean car and must have stepped on metal wand and dented it.I can not get the metal wand to extend now.It's jammed good.My fault and was going to call Hoover to get new wand, but now the cord is jammed also. The nearest authorized Hoover repair place is too far away for me. 4th con:the only extra attachment is a crevice tool with a removable brush head.There is no upholstery brush which I dearly miss.Last con:Although wheels in the rear of vac are large and sturdy, there is one small wheel in front and the vac tips over constantly.All in all, I thought the vac cleaned well, but I would not purchase again.Pretty ugly color too!

(More customer reviews)First the complaint - these bags are awfully pricey considering that they fill up so fast. The bag is too big for the compartment, so you have to fold it over at the top and bottom to get it to fit into the allotted space. Despite having owned this model vacuum for seven years, I still need three hands to get the corners of the over-sized bag tucked into place before slamming the compartment shut.

Changing the bag is a dirty bit of business, because when you pull the old bag off, all that super-fine dust at the top goes *POOF* and escapes from the bag's opening . We've taken to putting the vacuum on the back porch before opening up the bag compartment to keep dust out of our home.

I see a name brand competitor has come up with a solution to this by putting a little trap door thingie by the bag's opening, so when you pull the bag off the vacuum, all the dust doesn't fly out of the bag and go *POOF*.

Okay - the positive - these Hoover paper bags do a decent job of trapping fine dust particles, but I do wish they'd figure out how to make bag removal and installation easier. Or just make the bag a different shape so you're not contorting it to get it into the allotted space.

More recently, I've started using Filtrete (3M) bags. Made of cloth, they're lined with an electrostatically charged media which captures dust and dirt down to .3 microns. Because they're cloth (instead of stiff paper, like these bags), they're much easier to install into the Hoover vacuum.

This vacuum cleaner sucks. There I said it, now that that's out of the way let's get down to the nitty gritty the down and dirty.For the past five years or so I've only been using bag less vacuums. I have three. A Eureka upright, a Panasonic small canister and a DustBuster. Bag less vacuums are a breed unto themselves. You get to save the cost of the bags but you have to figure out how to empty them without making a bigger mess than you just cleaned up.You have to supply a bag of some sort so you can contain the dirt and dispose of it neatly.With a bag vacuum like the MC-CG885 that's not a problem. What IS a problem is the bag inside is quite small and very costly. As Amazon doesn't sell it (yet??) I found it on the Internet for about $6 per bag. For a bag as small as it is, that could be quite an expensive proposition to maintain. My first thought is if you have new carpet, they usually shed for quite a while (my bag less upright pulled up a lot of blue fuzz) and you'll fill these bags very quickly. Going back to my first sentence, this "OptiFlow" has a lot of suction power. That's good it pulled up dirt like nobody's business.

To begin back at the beginning, assembling this vacuum was relatively easy. The hose attaches to the body with an easy twist and the wands also go together with positive latching mechanisms that are quite secure. Just make sure you connect the outboard power line so the beater bar and light get their power. It's a simple, one way is right, positive connection. When it's all together I noticed a few issues. There is a hook on the body to support the wand and head in an upright position for storage or rest. It sometimes tips over.If the head is set to anything other than extra low it always tips over.It won't park as easily as an upright.It on the other hand isn't as heavy as a typical upright. It's fairly maneuverable too. It has three free spinning casters on its bottom and they roll easily on carpet or floor. I have both.The power cord is VERY long so you can plug it in and clean a large area or maybe two rooms.It retracts easily with the press of the large button on the top of the canister. Under the "hood"it has hidden storage for the crevice tool and small brush. Both work as expected. The business end of the hose has a pistol type grip and sliding on off switch. This is where you can attach the tools or by disconnecting the head end power cord you can use one of the rods for an extended reach.The power switch is an Off, Floor, Carpet three position switch. It also controls the beater bar on the head piece.It operates smoothly and efficiently.

I experimented with different heightsfor the head end. At its lowest setting it has a tendency to want to pull you forward, It's very strong and digs into the carpet. As I raised it that corrected the situation and still got the cleaning done. Just be careful to get the right height setting.As for cleaning a floor, not so good. Light or loose dust is fine but for heavier grime you'll need something better for that. It's not a mop.

Changing the bag is easy and neat. It rests in a basket that has a handle to lift it out of the body. It's all under the big hood that opens easily. That the bag is small and expensive is the biggest most damning strike on this otherwise fine vacuum. It is also relatively quiet for one that is as powerful as it is. I would love to see Panasonic come up with an emptyable cartridge that would go where the bag is, but that's not going to happen.

To sum up. It's strong, quiet, easy to use and does a very good job. I just can't get over the fact that you will be running up serious expenses on bags.

UPDATE: March 14: I would raise the Star level to 4 now that Amazon is selling the bags and at a reasonable price (4 for $10). It ends my biggest gripe.

(More customer reviews)after reading many reviews from many different sources we decided to purchase this vacuum. we ended up getting it from costco as it was quite a bit cheaper than on amazon at the time. i have to say that we've been thrilled with this vacuum so far. it does a wonderful job on our carpet leaving no trace of dog hair behind. the dirt sensor is a fun addition although i'm not completely sure what it's thinking sometimes. the self-propel feature is great and works effortlessly with normal vauuming gestures gliding the vacuum along the floor with ease.

we were looking at some dyson vacuums as well but after going to the store and test driving both models the dyson vacuums, although great to look at, seemed heavy and awkward to use most of the time. the hoovers seemed to have a good vacuum feel to them.

the set of attachments is also nice and are very easy to use.

(More customer reviews)We purchased these bags for the first time in May 2001. I installed a bag and thought it worked OK. (I did not throw the former bags, not Hoover bags, out.) The next time the bag needed changing the lady who cleans the house (unbeknown to us) installed the bag we had been using previously. My wife who is very sensitive to house dust recognized the difference. After a very short time my wife said she could smell the dust when the vacuum cleaner was in use. I changed the bag in our vacuum back to a Hoover bag and the probem was cured. While not very scientific, it convinced us. I have thrown the other bags away.
Additional Comment:
Because of the small particles that are trapped in the bag, I take the vacuum outside to remove the filled bag. This prevents these particles from escaping back into the air in the house.

(More customer reviews)I have two dogs, and have owned Dyson, Kenmore and other vacuums, none have lifted dirt and dog hair like this vacuum does at a fraction of the price that I had paid for the Dyson.The vacuum easily comes apart and all parts can be cleaned.The self-propelled feature is necessary since this is a heavy vacuum.The best feature for me is the ability to fully remove the agitator brush roll to remove the pet hair.Well-designed and easy to assemble and operate.Unfortunately, due to poor shipping, the vacuum box was damaged and the unit itself received some exterior damage.It might be better to find this product on sale in the store.

(More customer reviews)Usually I won't buy a product on Amazon without seeing at least one customer review...but at $100 I thought I'd take a chance. I wanted a lightweight vacuum with good power, one that was bagless, able to pick up animal hair, and wouldn't cost me a fortune long-term with replacement filters. So far, this vacuum fits all those criteria.

PROS
- Easy to put together. It took me about 4 minutes once the pieces are out of the box. A Philips screwdriver is required to secure the handle. There's nothing complicated here.
- Long cord. Plus, there's a little cord clip up near the handle to secure the cord.
- Power. I was surprised to see how quickly this cleaned up and how much it got out of my carpet, even after my Roomba had taken a turn just before. Very good at getting fine cat hair out of a medium-pile carpet.
- Lightweight. You sacrifice a motor (i.e. it's not self-propelled), but the darn thing is so light it hardly matters. I had no trouble pushing this thing around; in fact, I found it easier to push without the motor than my bigger, heavier Bissell bagless vacuum (which weight about 10 pounds more but was self-propelled). It weighs about 15 pounds. Plus, the top of the canister serves as an additional handle for the entire vacuum, so you can pick it up in two different places.
- Easy to empty. The bottom of the canister is hinged. Push the button to unlock the canister from the vacuum, bring the canister to your garbage, and push the latch (easy to do) on the front of the canister. The darn thing just empties right out. (Just be sure you've got it over the garbage when you do!)
- Filters. The packaging says you never need to replace the HEPA filter (located at the top of the canister), and the canister's cone filter is apparently rinsable. I haven't had to deal with either yet.

CONS
One star off because of the little noises associated with operation. First, there was this weird chirping sound for about 5 minutes after using it the first time. It did, however, go away - looks like it was literally a squeaky wheel. And second, once you get something of weight in the canister, like a tiny piece of gravel, it whirls around and around and around...and you hear it whirl around and around...it's pretty loud. But overall, neither of these would keep me from purchasing again.

(More customer reviews)This is not the product you think it is. The picture and schematic for this item are both WRONG. Hoover has changed the product but left the model number the same. The new revised unit is not the same old beloved vacuum to which all the reviews prior to 2010 are referring. This version is a cheap imitation of the former. This "revised" model features:

- NO Headlight
- NO Bag Indicator
- NO hose coupling dust cover
- CHEAPER plastic
- CHEAPER carpet brush
- CHEAPER hose
- SHODDIER construction
- INCORRECT user manual

It still has the same amount of suction but because of the cheaper brush it doesn't really get down into the carpet like the old one. It just glides on top over the carpet. The cheaper hose is a real problem, because if you ever suffer the misfortune of kinking the hose once you will never get it un-kinked again. The lack of headlight is not a big deal, but the picture shows it has one and some people may need this feature. The missing bag indicator means you have to keep stopping and checking the bag to see if it's full. The plastic parts are made from a cheaper flimsy plastic. This makes the unit lightweight but it also means not everything fits together properly, for instance several of the attachments are misshapen. The old unit used to have a dust cover so when you used the hose it would not spew dust into the room (because the brush keeps turning). The "revised" model has no dust cover so you better get ready for a face full of dirt if you pull the hose out over a dusty area. The general construction of the unit is sub-par compared to the old version. In fact, the user manual is still from the old version, meaning the assembly instructions are incorrect for the revised version. You will have to figure out for yourself where to route the power cord on the rear of the chassis.

The vacuum does still work, has strong suction, and works well on carpet if you put it on the lowest height and really dig into the carpet. But you can probably find something better for your money. And Amazon should update their product photos!

(More customer reviews)This product delivers, exactly as advertised. It is good on floors, powerful on carpets, and is also fairly attractive. Although the toggle on-off switch can get annoying, with that same toggle switch you can "dial up" the suction power of the vacuum, which comes in handy often. Onboard tools are easy to reach and easy to attach. The dirt cup, like I imagined, is messy to use and fills up quickly: I'd advise to empty it when you're taking out the garbage so that the dust doesn't float up every time you open up the trash can or throw something away. You can't beat the lifetime HEPA filter; it even comes with a tiny brush to clean it with. Other vacuums (like the Sanyo dirthunter canister) need to have their filters replaced at $15 a pop. The power cord can be retracted using a pedal with your foot - very convenient. The noise level isn't too bad - I wouldn't say it's the most quiet vacuum but I'm willing to handle a little bit of noise for a little more performance. This vacuum rates better than other canisters on carpets and it's really true. It weighs comparably to other canisters and is not too heavy for a small person to easily carry and maneuver. I was looking for a vacuum that would perform well at a lower price, and be easy to use and maintain, with not too much strain on the ears. I am surprised and glad to say that this Hoover delivers.
