(More customer reviews)Consumer Reports rated an earlier version (4870) as a "best buy."By the time their articles went to print, two models 4870HG and 4870HZ, were released and neither has had a price increase.I bought the recent HZ from Amazon.com and it was delivered UPS in two days in a tall box which told me it was already assembled.Assembly for attachements and a reading the instructions was a 3 minute process.It is much quieter than my prior 1999 Hoover Bag Model and Bissell 2003 Bagless, both of which still ran but did not pick up much.It picks up so much and so fast, you won't have to waste $150 to have your carpets cleaned (assuming no embedded stains like grape juice).You will love it.There is not enough space on here to say all the great things about it.The price ended up including a second replacement bag and a replacement drive belt.Too many great features to mention here.

Dirt Devil M085590 Featherlite Bagged Upright Vacuum Cleaner Review

(More customer reviews)Approximately three years ago, my $200 Eureka vac finally stopped working and I purchased the featherlite to replace it.At that time I lived in a 1,400 sf apartment.Now I live in a 2,500 sft home.

For the past three years, this vacuum has served our family well.Pros:

1.Inexpensive.$40 or less in most places.
2.It picks up dirt, fuzz (and legos) as well or better than any other vacuum I've ever used.Really.Just change the bag when it gets full.
3.Light weight.It's very easy to manuver and my younger kids can use it.
4.Simplicity.This is a basic vac.It's easy to change the bag, wind the cord, and pull hair/crud out of the roller if necessary.
5.It's got a bag.This is a personal preference, but every bagless upright I've ever used creates a small dust storm when you empty it.The bag system on this one works well.

Cons:
1.I don't expect it to go past 5 years.It's clearly designed for low cost and light weight.However, so far so good.
2.It's pretty loud.Not the loudest I've used but it's not quiet.
3.The hose for attachments is cumbersome to use.My recommendation?Use a small canister vac and/or shop vac instead.Most uprights have on-board tools that don't work well.
4.I have several children, and one in particular that sheds a lot of long hair.All vac will get hair caught in the beater-bar underneath, but this one also seems to get hair caught in the bushings that support the bar.When this happens, the hair builds up in that area creating friction and eventually smelly hair smell.Not a huge problem but slightly annoying.

I intend to buy another one of these when mine gives out.If I have to spend $40 every 4-6 years to own a lightweight, easy to use, vacuum that cleans extremely well then I'm quite ok with that!I see no reason to blow $200-$400 on a large heavy vacuum that MIGHT last a little longer.

(More customer reviews)After going through 2 dysons, a bissel, and a Hoover platinum bagless in the last 8 years, I decided my problem was not all my cats, dogs and messy children- but the "bagless" vac instead. I did this get version at Sears since I could test drive it there. I have never had a vac with so much suction!!! I test drove the kenmores, dysons and new LG- but there was no comparison. You don't need an self propulsion on this model b/c once you turn it on, the suction is so great it moves itself across the floor. I know it's not super fancy like the others- but it's nice to have the brush on/off as a foot pedal on the base you can press easily and it's easy to just drop the bag out when it's full. Great job Hoover!

(More customer reviews)I purchased this vacuum less than 6 months ago and it is already useless.About 2 months ago, the Turbo Brush attachment (which was wonderful at first) stopped working completely.Unfortunate, but the vacuum still worked nicely.Currently, I vacuumed my whole house and smelled that familiar hot smell and thought I was burning through a belt.Not so.Upon opening the bottom of the vacuum I found that the beater bar had caused so much friction with the vacuum casing that it burned through 2 layers of plastic casing on the vacuum unit.It cannot be repaired and Bissell customer service won't do anything despite it being under warranty.I am taking the unit back to the store where I purchased it for a refund!

Hoover Tempo Widepath Upright Vacuum, Bagged, U5140-900 Review

(More customer reviews)This is not the product you think it is. The picture and schematic for this item are both WRONG. Hoover has changed the product but left the model number the same. The new revised unit is not the same old beloved vacuum to which all the reviews prior to 2010 are referring. This version is a cheap imitation of the former. This "revised" model features:

- NO Headlight
- NO Bag Indicator
- NO hose coupling dust cover
- CHEAPER plastic
- CHEAPER carpet brush
- CHEAPER hose
- SHODDIER construction
- INCORRECT user manual

It still has the same amount of suction but because of the cheaper brush it doesn't really get down into the carpet like the old one. It just glides on top over the carpet. The cheaper hose is a real problem, because if you ever suffer the misfortune of kinking the hose once you will never get it un-kinked again. The lack of headlight is not a big deal, but the picture shows it has one and some people may need this feature. The missing bag indicator means you have to keep stopping and checking the bag to see if it's full. The plastic parts are made from a cheaper flimsy plastic. This makes the unit lightweight but it also means not everything fits together properly, for instance several of the attachments are misshapen. The old unit used to have a dust cover so when you used the hose it would not spew dust into the room (because the brush keeps turning). The "revised" model has no dust cover so you better get ready for a face full of dirt if you pull the hose out over a dusty area. The general construction of the unit is sub-par compared to the old version. In fact, the user manual is still from the old version, meaning the assembly instructions are incorrect for the revised version. You will have to figure out for yourself where to route the power cord on the rear of the chassis.

The vacuum does still work, has strong suction, and works well on carpet if you put it on the lowest height and really dig into the carpet. But you can probably find something better for your money. And Amazon should update their product photos!

I used to have a Dyson Animal which I absolutely HATED!What a pleasure to use this vacuum instead.
Only one criticism - only one short extension wand came with the vacuum.Need to use my old Hoover extension wands to reach the baseboards, etc.
