1.There are two filters that need to be changed every 6-12 months (yah, right...more like every three months) and they cost oh, between $38-$50 depending on where you can find them...Wal-Mart? No, they don't carry this type...Target? If you are really lucky.Sears carries them, for about $49.00 a pop...and that is just one filter...you need 2.
2.You can't empty these puppies in the house because you have to tap (more like beat) the filter on the side of the garbage can and dust goes EVERYWHERE, YUCK!So, what do you do?You take it outside to beat it in the garbage can, then with the smallest gust of wind you are covered, COVERED, I'm talking an abominable brown snowman, with dust and dead spiders and anything else you sucked up thinking it was gone forever.
3.The screen...yes, not only the filter needs to be cleaned after EVERY...and I mean with EVERY use..there is this fancy little screen that you have to pull up and pick the caked on "microdust" off of and what do you use to do that????Well, if you are on the ball (which I rarely am) you remembered your small wire brush...but if you didn't you can't really run back in the house holding this nasty dirty thing flinging yuck all over your house...so, you use your finger nail, yes, desperate times call for desperate measures.
4.It burns through belts...twice a year at least (they either break or stretch) not a huge expense, but a lame and time consuming one.
5.It looses suction, bad, after about 10-15 minutes of vacuuming, and then you have to do the whole filter cleaning all over again.
6.The attachment hose pops out ALL THE TIME.SO, you either learn to vacuum holding the hose down and in...or (more probably) you get it in there really good and pray it doesn't come out and resolute to never touch it again.
7.BOTTOM LINE:I have had this Windtunnel for about 2 years, I was not impressed the first time I used it...furious the first time I had to empty it...but I thought, well, maybe it will grow on me....Um, No.I actually stopped vacuuming, I hated it, I hated the waste of time for practically no reward, I hated the dust everywhere, I hated the expense, don't waste your time, money and sanity.
8.Okay, with all that said, I purchased a sweet little vacuum from Wal-mart a few months ago, and I have been waiting to find something wrong with it to pop up but I has not been disappointing yet.I have gone through 1 bag, (I vacuum almost everyday with 2 toddlers), but the bags are really compact I was surprised how much they hold.The light went off to change the bag and it took a whole, oh, 30 seconds for the whole process, the dirt was gone, in the garbage, just like that.And the suction is amazing.Go get this vacuum, today.Do not waist anymore brain cells on a bagless. !!!GE 12 AMP, 2 motor, home cleaning system!!!It's a canister and sucks like...well, something that sucks really, really great!Lol, I actually love to vacuum, really!Plus, the best part...it is only a little over $100.00 and it has a filter but it comes free with the bags.Cool. Get this vacuume today...now...go!

I spent the day yesterday shampooing and vacuuming my 1600 SF house.Today I decided I needed to replace my previous vac, because I am sick of taking the screwdriver out and taking it apart to remove the clogs.So I went out shopping and came home with this unit.
I have re-done my whole house and I was shocked at how much this thing picked up.It almost made me blush, because I thought my house was clean!!It proved me wrong!I have 2 chihuahuas and 2 love birds to clean up after (Oh yeah, and a husband!)
I love this vac, and for half the price of the Dyson that I have been wanting FOREVER, I say get this and go get yourself something really nice with the extra money that is left.

(More customer reviews)We moved to a three-story townhouse, and it quickly became clear that my loud, clumsy old Hoover upright was not going to work out in our new home. I nearly went deaf trying to vacuum the stairs, and trying to keep an upright balanced on the steps was an exercise in futility.

So I was convinced that a canister vac was the way to go. This is the second one I tried and the one I decided to keep.

Suction is very good. I'm sure it could be stronger, but given the light weight and the quiet operation, I'm very happy with its ability to clean. In a tradeoff between outright suction and weight, I'm happy to err in favor of a lighter unit, especially with three stories to clean.

The power brush attachment is great on low-to-medium height pile and works better than I'd expected on hardwood floors. A switch to turn the brushroll on and off is right on the handle, which is a must in my book. Crevice, upholstery, and dusting brush attachments are included and fit nicely onboard. They're useful, if a little small.

On the downside, the other reviewers are spot-on with the complaints about the hose length. It could certainly be longer, and though it has a telescoping wand, it's not enough to reach that far overhead.

In addition, I think it would've been more convenient had they put suction strength and on/off controls on the handle, as is the case with the competing Electrolux Oxygen3 that I tried.

I do wish it were priced lower, but after spending many weekends trying out the available alternatives at brick-and-mortar stores, I just couldn't find anything that had the Bosch's virtues with a comparable price. If your priority is having a quiet, compact, and lightweight vacuum with excellent suction and all the essential cleaning tools, it's probably worth the premium.

Oreck OR100 Premier Series Lightweight Vacuum Cleaner Review

(More customer reviews)I just received this vacuum cleaner today. Mine is actually the SOR100, same cleaner only mine has an aluminum brush roll and the housing is chrome not black. My first impression of this when I took it out of the box was the quality of the unit. Steel housing, aluminum brush roll, easy assembly, just an over all solid feel. And it easy to remove the brush roll and fan to clean.

Since there isn't a great description for this vacuum cleaner I will give some of the details.

It is the commercial series of the Oreck vacuums. It has a reusable bag and a 50 foot long power cord (this model may be only 35). The wheels on the back are wide and easy to roll. It has six adjustable carpet settings, ( although most people will probably just use one or two) it doesn't self adjust like the domestic line of Orecks. The cleaning path is 12" and it doesn't have a light. However, it only weighs about 14lbs and is super light to carry and push around and it will lay completely flat so you can get under furniture.

My only complaints are few and not enough I feel to lower my rating. The bag is reusable, that's great right? No more bags to buy right? Well the only problem is that when you empty the bag it tends to throw some dust into the air. Because of this you may want to empty it outside, a small inconvenience but worth it when you see just what this thing gets out of your carpet!

Another gripe I have is with the cord storage system, the clips are plastic and don't rotate to allow the cord to fall of in one motion. You have to unwind it by hand. Only takes a few seconds but still, would be a nice feature to have. And since the clips are plastic, I doubt they will last long but they are replaceable, so we'll see how it goes.

The only other complaint I have is that isn't made completely in the USA like their domestic vacs, it says designed and developed in the USA but made in PROC. Which I assume is the People's Republic of China. Now, I primarily bought an Oreck because I thought all their uprights were made in the USA and I hate to buy Chinese made goods.

However, it shipped from a plant in Cookeville, TN which makes other uprights. It would appear that these vacuums might be made in China but the final Quality Control check is still done in the USA. This is actually fine by me, as it means there are still jobs for US citizens even though the vacuum is made overseas. You wouldn't be able to tell it though by the build quality.

True this vacuum doesn't have all the bells and whistles as the other vacuums have. It doesn't have a hose attachment or any on board tools. Fine by me, I have never owned a vacuum with on board tools where the hose didn't start slipping out over time. Such a pain to be vacuuming for a bit only to realize the hose has come undone and you have to redo that section.

As someone said on another review, everything made is a Swiss Army knife anymore, nothing is made to do one thing well, only do several things ok. Well I'll tell you this vacuum does clean carpet and it does it well.

This vacuum is not for use on bare floors or hardwood floors. It has a feature on the brush roll that will damage a bare floor. There are only two rows of bristles, but opposite those bristles are metal nubs that when they pass over the floor they vibrate the carpet.( this model has a fiberglass brush roll so I don't know it has the vibrator feature ) This causes the deep down dirt to be vibrated out of the carpet so the vacuum can suck it up. Very cool!

Update: I just wanted to add, after reading the first review that this vacuum eats belts, I think I understand why they are having a problem. You have to set the carpet height higher than you might think. The vacuum should just slightly, and ever so slightly drag on the carpet, it should glide over it fairly easily. If you set it too low, the brush roll just digs into the carpet and causes enough friction to heat up the belt. I know if you are used to using a department store vacuum you think it needs to drag on the carpet but this vacuum picks up very well without beating the hell out of the carpet. Just buy it and use it and you will see what I mean.

(More customer reviews)This vacuum is light weight and handy, but if you want a vacuum that sucks dirt up from carpet, this is not your vacuum!!Mine sucks dirt from hardwood floors just fine, but I have to vacuum about ten times in the same place on carpet for it to pick up fluffy stuff.It makes a great carpet sweeper though because the brushy thingys inside the nozzle thingy brush the cat hair and stuff off the carpet real well ... they just don't get sucked up after that, they wipe back off in another place on the carpet ... :)

Bissell 37601 Lift-Off Revolution Turbo Upright Bagless Vacuum Review

(More customer reviews)An upgrade to my last Bissell (Cleanview Deluxe),this one is even better....was ONSALE for $160, and well worth it.
Removeable canister capability is easy and makes this vac so much more versitile...such as taking out to your car or for carpeted steps. I really love the user friendly design of these Bissell vacs....never complex, and I don't feel I need a manual to understand or operate.
Super suction...and the brushes are so powerful, it almost feels self propelled as you push forward.
The 'telescoping' function of the extension wand was a nice upgrade, although it does takes a little time getting used to it...also the new dual-headed brush tool is an inovative idea i like.
Another really nice upgrade is the on/off brush power button...and the vac is now smart, even when brushes are powered ON, they wont rotate till you step on the release pedal AND pull the handle down towards you.
I also noticed you can now pull the handle down literally to the FLOOR without the front of the vac lifting up...this means being able to roll further under couches/tight spots.

If I had to give CONS :

1) There are 3 filters...1 HEPA and 2 foam...the foam filters in particular should be cleaned once a month,as directed..but I check even more often (due to high traffic/pets)... They can get pretty dirty relatively fast, and although u may not notice any loss of suction,I assume cleaning these filters often will always improve performance...... Its not hard to do, they are basically foam sponges u can rinse clean, and they dry pretty quick.

2) The vac when all together as 1 unit, is pretty heavy. Doesnt bother me, but may be an issue to some. My wife immediately noticed the weight... The canaster vac, when separated, is easy to carry with its handle, but some may still find even this a little heavy as well.
In my opinion, the weight is due to good construction and a strong motor. I think its worth it.

3) Seems like a lot of new vacs come with some form or version of a 'turbo brush' attachment. I'm not a fan of these...the brushes are SUCTION driven, NOT motor driven. Its a gimmick tool.. I prefer the simple NON turbo brush tool that come with this vac, and I let the suction power (and a little up/down motion of my own) do the work. I keep the turbo brush permanantly removed from the handle altogether. To me its just added dead weight.

4) only 1 improvenment I could think of now is a retracteable cord....

Eureka 6510A WhirlWind XL 12-Amp Bagless Canister Vacuum Cleaner Review

(More customer reviews)I've waited a few months to write this, to make sure I'm still pleased with this vac, and I am. I give a lot of thought to my vacuums, because I use it every day (dogs that shed a lot). Here's my vacuum analysis: 1. I like canister vacs vs. uprights because pushing just the head of a canister vac is less tiring than pushing around the total weight of an upright vac. 2. When considering the power of a vac, I don't buy anything less than 12 amps. (which this vac has) AND I purchase one with a power head too (which this vac has). More power! 3. When replacing my old vac (a Sears Kenmore which I loved, but they no longer get good reviews), I decided to go bagless because the price of bags has gone up so much. I chose this one because it has a large dust canister, unlike some of the other brands. It's easy enough to remove, empty, and replace back into the vac. 4. This vac is lightweight too. Not relevant, but it's also cute. 5. A few of the tools -crevice and brush- attach onto the long wand. No, they're not onboard. But you have to lose something to make up for the dust cannister. 6. I tried an experiment regarding the suction. I vacuumed the den carpet first with another vac. Then vacuumed with this vac for the first time after receiving it. I couldn't believe how much dirt it picked up! Cupfulls! 7. The cord is a little short for me, my rooms are large and I do have to unplug it and plug it again into another outlet. (Lazy me to complain about this.) 8. This vac has 3 filters in all. The HEPA filter in the vac; replace yearly. Then another [thick] filter on the dust canister. This one can be washed. And another [thin] filter on the vac that the thick filter then filters into; can also be washed. Nice feature - to be able to wash filters. I'd like to get duplicates for these 2 (for while those others are drying) but can't figure out which filters these are via limited info Eureka (or other) websites give. Sigh. 9. By the way, cheapest price for this vac I found was thru ABC Vacuums website, also free (and quick) shipping.

(More customer reviews)This is a very good vacuum if you're only doing carpet and not hard surfaces.i really mean it when i say it's a very good vaccuum.the person reviewing before complaining about the 3 empties of dust cup is evidence of that.it's picking up WAY more then other vacuums.i even tried a dyson out in the store and that was laughable compared to this one.the dyson left trails of dirt on the home depot floor.they also said there's no upholstry attachment??? HELLO!!!!!!! the POWER PAW!!!!! DUH!it's amazing, it rotates just like the regular vacuum so it really gets the cat hair and does a great job on the stairs.

it has a great ergo handle the lifts and lowers for comfort.
no filter in dust cup which is a huge plus
GREAT PRICE!worth WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY more.there are a few quirks in design.

hepa air outlet placement, in the front so if you're doing hardwoods and stand it up, things blow around.

the hose is weirdly attached so you really have to push it through the hole to get it to extend and it always goes back in while you're vacuuming.

the attachments fall off so i just store them elsewhere

the cord should be retractable that would be STELLAR!

i am very happy with this vacuum it does a bang up job and i'll just have to stick to swiffers for my hardwoods.

(More customer reviews)I looked at a lot of other vacuums before choosing this one.It SEEMED to be built well and the design/engineering would be very handy and effective.I got it home and was amazed at how well it picked up dirt.To my disappointment however, after a week of use, it started to malfunction.First, I noticed the brush roller seemed to stop spinning on carpet.Then shortly afterward, the vacuum would shut itself off repeatedly after the first couple minutes of operation.The manual says this vacuum is designed to shut itself off when there is a blockage inside it to prevent overheating.Well I checked and rechecked for a blockage, cleaned the filter and brush roll but it still did the same thing.I contacted Electrolux customer service and they would not admit this was a common problem nor would they tell me if there was a fix for this problem but if you research reviews on other web sites, it appears to be happening quite often.Instead of going through the hassle of going to my nearest service center 40 miles away, I returned the vacuum for a refund.I really liked the vacuum at first but will not try another one.I found a Hoover Elite Windtunnel with a 6 year warranty. Don't bother with this model, you will eventually regret it. By the way, if you are looking for the quality Electrolux vacuum of the past, these are not it.These are made in China by the same company that makes Eureka. The old Electrolux was bought by a company called Aerus Lux.

Eureka 431BX Optima Lightweight Upright Vacuum Review

(More customer reviews)I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical of this machine. My wife and I moved to a new house with more carpeting and, after 16 years, had to retire our old Hoover. We looked at Dysons and a few other full-size vacs. Problem is, they all weighed a ton. (Well, not really a ton...but a lot.) Seeing that we have to lug the vacuum up and down stairs constantly, we wanted something lighter weight. Then we saw it...a mention of the Eureka Optima in an issue of Oprah magazine while visiting my sister and her family on vacation. We went to the local Best Buy and checked it out. After vacuuming up a bunch of junk on the floor of Best Buy in Nyack, NY, we took the plunge. The vacuum is a breeze to assemble. It's even kind of cute looking. And it does have a great deal of suction. The lack of a HEPA filter may be a drawback to some, but we went from an old bagged vacuum to this bagless...so it's a huge improvement for us even without the HEPA filter. The Optima is a bit harder to push than our old vac, especially on thicker carpet. But our rooms aren't terribly big, so we look at it as an opportunity for a bit of exercise. The incredible weight (or lack thereof) of this machine, along with the low price, more than makes up for the little bit of effort required to push it. It's easy to empty, too. And the telescoping handle is great! Put the handle all the way down and you can store this vac in just about any closet. We've even stored it in a large kitchen cabinet. I'd recommend this vacuum to anyone. Or you can spend six or seven or eight times the money on a Dyson. The choice is yours!!

(More customer reviews)I have owned several vacuum cleaners in my life and to date the best one is still the old, old canister vacuum that my parents used for 30 years before I had it. I miss that vacuum!

I am not hard on my appliances, it just me and my husband and no children in the house. We needed a new vacuum and this one seemed nice and powerful in the store and the first few times I used it. However, from the start there was a burning rubber odor which stunk up the entire house. I assumed it was the belt, checked the belt and it seemed okay. So, I thought maybe it was due to being new. However, the stink never stopped and the belt eventually melted from overheating. We bought a new belt, because this is not a warranty item. After replacing the belt and using the vacuum twice, the same thing happened and I was again without a vacuum.

Another thing that happend is that the vacuum sucked up the power cord. I found it strange how the power cord had no place to lock into on the vacuum and how I had to always hold it up, and when it got sucked up and damaged, I thought it was my fault, not the poor design of the power cord placement. I see from the other reviews on this site, that the same thing has happened to several other people. We put electrical tape around the cord.

Now, not only the belt needs replacing, but the roller brush too because the belt melted all over it! Plus the vacuum lost suction power after a few uses. A screw fell out that helps to keep the bottom rolling along easy. The bagless collection cup for debris fills up within 1 session of vacuuming and it is a big mess to clean it.

I contacted Dirt Devil customer service to speak to someone and complain, but all the woman wanted to tell me over and over was that the belt is not a warranty item and to contact my local service center. I tried to explain that I understand that a belt is normally not a warranty item, but that there must be something wrong with the vacuum that is causing it to overheat and burn up the belt. She wanted to blame me for vacuuming up something too big that got caught in the machine and damaged it. Now I have owned many vacuums and I have never had belt burn up like this. They usually last for a number of years, not months, or in the latest case, a day.

I noticed that Dirt Devil has a sweeper that is recalled for overheating. Perhaps they have a similar problem with this vacuum?

Regardless, I am done with this vacuum - a piece of junk and rotten customer service to boot! I know I will never spend my hard earned money on a Dirt Devil again!

I bought this vacuum for my apartment in NYC with two other roommates. I have wood floors throughout the apartment. And I found that this vacuum is a little too much for this. I learned that this type vacuum is great for carpets and rugs. It still did its job well on bare floors. All the components worked well, and the attachments are pretty useful.

MAINTENANCE:
You have to clean this vacuum regularly. There are about 5 parts that needs to be cleaned thoroughly. These are the plastic reusable filters separates the dust from the larger chunks crumbs that the vacuum might pick up. In order for the vacuum to operate properly these filters have to be cleaned by washing it in soapy water, scrubbed, and dried. If poor maintenance clogs the filters it WILL damage the motor.

In a roommate environment, in our apartment this proved to be a problem. Because lets face it, who likes to clean? We have a cleaning schedule to keep all the roommates do their part in cleaning. But the problem arose to who cleans the vacuum, and the vacuum was never maintained and eventually overheated the motor and broke.CONCLUSION
This is a great vacuum and I recommend it to those who have carpeted apartments. For those of us with wood floors or in a roommate situation, this is not the best vacuum to have. In fact it's best to avoid bag-less vacuums. Just go for the more traditional bag vacuum, you can all (roommates) split the cost for the bags.

I went to a local authorized repair center and learned about how bag less vacuums work and the lifespan of the affordable vacuums such as this one have.
What I learned, low-end vacuums, such as this one have about a two or more years worth of use, if maintained properly before they break. It has to do with the quality of motor that they use on these things.

I also learned about the advantages and disadvantages of bag-less vacuums. The advantages are obvious--no bags to buy to use the vacuum, and less waste--it's a bit more ecological to have a bag-less vacuum. The disadvantages are the maintenance. The vacuum needs regular thorough cleaning of its own.

(More customer reviews)Until I purchased this!This nifty little vacuum achieves what no other vacuum can.It's powerful and robust yet light to handle.I was thinking about buying a Dyson, but they are so heavy to push around and I needed a flexible power head that can reach under furniture.The power head lays almost completely flat and slides easily under beds, sofa's and other furniture.All of the components are tough yet light.The hose is excellent and the telescopic part is made from aluminum, it's very solid.

It comes with a crevice tool and a dusting brush which are located on the hose handle and a separatewell made hard floor brush that has real bristles and wheels, and an upholstery brush.The fact that I don't have to pick fluff and dust off the filter is a real plus, the bagless models are usually so annoying for that reason.This vacuum cleans its own filter with a simple maneuver.

The controls are located on the hose handle and are push buttons not switches, there are 3, the on/off, bare floor/carpet and suction control of which there are 2 levels.There are two lighted (a cool neon blue!) indicators on the canister for suction level and filter cleaning.

It is very easy to lift off the dust container and you press a lever to empty it out.I found it better to do this without shaking or tapping thedust out too much as it can cloud out all over the container if you are not careful, I then just dusted the lid and body with a swifer duster to clean up the fine dust.

I was quite shocked at what the cleaner picked up, it seemed to remove dirt that was really embedded in my medium pile carpet and I had been vacuuming regularly with my Kenmoore.

The only problem I have is that the power head is noisy, but I can forgive that because it works hard.The canister itself is not noisy when you switch to bare floor it is quieter than average.Also, I am not sure that the power head picks up that well on the bare floor option, I got a better result using the bare floor brush.

All round a super stylish high tech piece of Swedish engineering.It is expensive, but you are buying the Rolls Royce of vacuum cleaners.

Hoover 40201190 Package of 2 Replacement Belts Review

I did a little research and had to cross reference information from other vendors to find that the part number is different but they still make the belt (38528-027 = 38528-040). I was blessed that on Amazon I could get a 2 pack (again, a different part number 40201190) for such a great price. Belts work perfectly and vendor provided excellent service!!!
