Eureka 431BX Optima Lightweight Upright Vacuum Review

I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical of this machine. My wife and I moved to a new house with more carpeting and, after 16 years, had to retire our old Hoover. We looked at Dysons and a few other full-size vacs. Problem is, they all weighed a ton. (Well, not really a ton...but a lot.) Seeing that we have to lug the vacuum up and down stairs constantly, we wanted something lighter weight. Then we saw it...a mention of the Eureka Optima in an issue of Oprah magazine while visiting my sister and her family on vacation. We went to the local Best Buy and checked it out. After vacuuming up a bunch of junk on the floor of Best Buy in Nyack, NY, we took the plunge. The vacuum is a breeze to assemble. It's even kind of cute looking. And it does have a great deal of suction. The lack of a HEPA filter may be a drawback to some, but we went from an old bagged vacuum to this bagless...so it's a huge improvement for us even without the HEPA filter. The Optima is a bit harder to push than our old vac, especially on thicker carpet. But our rooms aren't terribly big, so we look at it as an opportunity for a bit of exercise. The incredible weight (or lack thereof) of this machine, along with the low price, more than makes up for the little bit of effort required to push it. It's easy to empty, too. And the telescoping handle is great! Put the handle all the way down and you can store this vac in just about any closet. We've even stored it in a large kitchen cabinet. I'd recommend this vacuum to anyone. Or you can spend six or seven or eight times the money on a Dyson. The choice is yours!!

Shark Retractor Stick Vacuum - EP604 Review

I bought this to clean my laminate wood floors.I wanted something that wouldn't kill my back, was light weight, and didn't tear up my floor. This fits the bill.It is not as powerful as my upright Hoover but it's more convenient. The cord retracts which is nice.It has onboard tools and in a flash I can get into the corners and baseboards with the hose.It picks up pretty good but lint gets stuck on the little bottom wheels. Also, it is ESSENTIAL the filter be cleaned often otherwise it doesn't pick up well. The filter is easy to clean; I just take it out back and hose it off.I paid $50 for it and think it's worth it.Just be sure and clean the filter and don't expect a regular vaccum in this little guy.

Bissell : 31063 FeatherWeightTM Vacuum Cleaner Review

Bissell : 31063 FeatherWeightTM Vacuum Cleaner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I needed a good working, and affordable vac to clean up my small college dorm room's carpet (It's not a very plush carpet). This vac surprised me! So far it's been working out fantastic! The long handle is detachable and so is the top head so you can convert it into the familiar dust buster. It's small enough to store under a bed in a dorm room. It has a pointed wand attachment too. This certainly isn't something you would want to use as a main vac for a house, but it's great for the dorm. The cord length seems to work great for my 16'x12' dorm room--so it does NOT operate as a cordless, so no worries about the battery dying out on you. It's bagless so the canister has to be emptied...

which brings me to my only complaint about it... everything seems to get stuck to the filter... hair, dust and dirt... so it's not just a matter of emptying the canister. You have to pick everything off the filter, and it has a tendency to get inverted so you have to pull it out to clean it good. So my suggestion is to clean it over an open trash can... and for the dust you just can't seem to pick off, use a lint roller on the filter and it seems to clean it up well. (which is why I give it 4 stars instead of 5)

Otherwise, great vac for the price paid (Approximately $20 at Wal-mart).

Dirt Devil CE5500 Floor Keeper Review

Dirt Devil CE5500 Floor Keeper
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Okay, first I purchased the "flip it". I basically flipped it right back to the store. Vacuum side was useless. Mopping side was even more useless. Zero rotation...you basicall move a scrubby pad back and forth while sprayed solution is a mess all over the floor.

Next I bought the Dirt Devil Floor Keeper. It lived up to the Dirt Devil reputation.....junk. Not only did the vacuum leave alot to be desired, but the actual "brushes" for mopping were ridiculously designed. Basically it is a bar with a very thin thread of bristles running diagonally across it. Not exactly sure all the floor is "scrubbed" by this tiny brush.Solution came out in globs everywhere....I spent plenty of time on my knees hand drying the floor. Finally, I purchased the Hoover Floormate. My reluctance at first was due to the price. However, the old adage, 'you get what you pay for'. Bottom line, I love it. Vacuum works great. The rotating brushes do a wonderful job of cleaning the floor (very little effort on my part). Best thing is when you empty the intake tank. The water is disgusting, proving that by using a regular sponge or string mop you are just swishing dirty water back and forth over your floor. My only complaint is the solution switch...it's kind of difficult to see how much is coming out of the machine into the brushes. Left some wet spots on the floor, which was taken care of by using the wet pick up function. I think as I get more used to how much solution is actually being released, I will have less of a problem.

Bottom line, I love the machine as much as I hated the Bissell and Dirt Devil!!

Hoover WindTunnel Canister Vacuum, Bagless, S3755 Review

Hoover WindTunnel Canister Vacuum, Bagless, S3755
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This product delivers, exactly as advertised. It is good on floors, powerful on carpets, and is also fairly attractive. Although the toggle on-off switch can get annoying, with that same toggle switch you can "dial up" the suction power of the vacuum, which comes in handy often. Onboard tools are easy to reach and easy to attach. The dirt cup, like I imagined, is messy to use and fills up quickly: I'd advise to empty it when you're taking out the garbage so that the dust doesn't float up every time you open up the trash can or throw something away. You can't beat the lifetime HEPA filter; it even comes with a tiny brush to clean it with. Other vacuums (like the Sanyo dirthunter canister) need to have their filters replaced at $15 a pop. The power cord can be retracted using a pedal with your foot - very convenient. The noise level isn't too bad - I wouldn't say it's the most quiet vacuum but I'm willing to handle a little bit of noise for a little more performance. This vacuum rates better than other canisters on carpets and it's really true. It weighs comparably to other canisters and is not too heavy for a small person to easily carry and maneuver. I was looking for a vacuum that would perform well at a lower price, and be easy to use and maintain, with not too much strain on the ears. I am surprised and glad to say that this Hoover delivers.

Swiffer Sweep & Vac Review

Swiffer Sweep & Vac
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Let's start off with the only major plus of this vacuum and sweeper. It is definitely lightweight so it might be worth a try if you can't handle anything heavy to help clean your floors. However, you'll still have to compromise on total cleanliness of those floors. It simply is no substitute for a stronger vac and/or sweeper. It is better than nothing, of course, but that isn't saying much.

In short, if you want something that is both a vacuum and picks up dust or dirt, you can do far better. First, consider the price (at this point, $100 or so). Even if that drops significantly, keep in mind that you have to use a rechargeable battery and keep getting sweeper cloths. You won't just be changing a reusable vacuum bag.

Also, I've yet to find a vacuum that works well for large floor spaces and ALSO runs only on batteries. For small spaces, yes - counters, tiny spills on floors, a bit of dirt, etc. But the Swiffer Sweep and Vac simply doesn't have the power of an actual vacuum cleaner and won't handle the average floor (unless the room is the size of a medium coat closet). Battery operated vacuums work fine for cars, some types of furniture and even kitchen counters but when you want to clean your kitchen or bathroom floor, you simply need more power. That is where the vacuum part of this combo falls short - it doesn't have enough power. Also, the dust cloths won't get the remaining debris.

This is based on my experience with this sweep and vac combo. Just for comparison's sake, I have teens running in and out of my house all day. We have winter here, too. But even if you have less activity than in our house, I still don't see how this vacuum could do the job.

Okay, so how about the disposable cloths? They also don't get all the dust, dirt and debris left behind by some vacuum cleaners. To test that, after using the "dusting" part of this device,I simply got down on my hands and knees and ran my hand over the floor. My hand came up covered in dust. I took a white sock and did the same thing. The sock was gray when I finished. You also have to deal with a filter. Having noted that, this might work for someone who couldn't handle a heavier vacuum cleaner or had very light dirt or dust in the home. But I doubt if the average family would find this satisfying. Save yourself the money and get a real vacuum cleaner for the same price or a bit more!

Within minutes, I was able to get my floor to pass the "touch test" by quickly vacuuming it with my reliable lightweight sweeper (electric) and by using some elbow grease and cleaning solution (made for either laminate, wood or tile floors, depending) to get rid of stains. It took far less effort than the "convenient" Sweep and Vac. No more dusty hands or gray socks after I was finished.

I do touch up my kitchen and bathroom floors almost daily and a strong vacuum cleaner along with water and a strong cloth to get any rubbed in dirt is the best method I've found so far. I also use disinfecting cleanser. It takes minutes to touch up my floors with far less effort than the sweep and vac. If I'm away form home for weeks, I have to use a bit more effort. It still isn't a big deal so I don't see the point of this "newfangled" invention (as one relative would put it).

Eureka 108A Easy Clean 2-in-1 Stick/Handheld Bagless Vacuum Cleaner Review

Eureka 108A Easy Clean 2-in-1 Stick/Handheld Bagless Vacuum Cleaner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this vacuum when I got tired of lugging out the big vac to keep up with dog hair and kid crumbs.Sweeping just made things worse by making the dog hair fly around instead of helping.

So, solution...a lightweight cordless vac WITH a small duster for sofas. This vacuum has been perfect for our family. The battery lasts long enough (10-15 minutes) for me to relatively thoroughly clean the kitchen floor and then the other 3 rooms that are wood floors. The dog hair and crumbs are picked up between thorough floor cleanings which is exactly the thing I needed. The removeable "dustbuster" is perfect for crumbs and hair on furniture and in tighter corners. This vacuum is not meant to be the end all vacuum for your house. It is perfect for the 1-2 times a day you may want to keep doghair and crumbs in check.I leave this vacuum in the laundry room plugged is so it is always ready to go.

There is an unexpected added bonus...my boys LOVE to use it!It is the perfect weight and height (with the handle down) for kids! They get it out and put it away on their own.I rarely let them sweep with a broom because it just made more work for me, but now I have to keep them from fighting over it:)

So, if dog hair and dirt acculumate quickly in your house and you dread pulling out the big vac to keep up and sweeping frustrates you, this is the vacuum for you.

Product Description:
Weighing just 6 pounds, this two-in-one bagless upright vacuum cleaner works great for thorough cleaning as well as for quick pickups of everyday messes like crumbs and spilled cereal on the kitchen floor. As an upright stick vac, the unit picks up dust and dirt from carpets, rugs, and bare-floor surfaces--a flip of the switch turns the brushroll off to protect hardwood floors and delicate rugs. The unit's low-profile head and smooth-rolling wheels make it possible to clean under furniture and around obstacles, while its cordless design ensures maximum convenience when moving from room to room. Best of all, the stick vac converts to a handheld unit for cleaning stairs, furniture, or car interiors. To remove the handheld vacuum cleaner from the base of the larger unit, simply push in on the release button and tilt the cleaner out and away. A crevice nozzle comes included for accessing hard-to-reach areas. Other highlights include a two-motor system, 9-3/5 volts of power, standard filtration, a comfortable oval-shaped handle, and an easy-to-empty dust cup. The vacuum cleaner measures 7 by 10 by 42-1/2 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Eureka 166DX Boss Lightweight Stick Vacuum Review

Eureka 166DX Boss Lightweight Stick Vacuum
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Here's my situation. I have a cat box in my bathroom and I really didn't like sweeping the kitty litter up every day - the broom would kick up dust and I would invariably miss a bit of kitty litter.

I needed something small, light that I could drag out and buzz around the bathroom (hard surface) with. This fits the bill perfectly. It's not exactly quiet, but not too bad either.

I don't like the rechargeable stick vacs because my closet doesn't have a power outlet and I really don't want to leave it out and look at the thing. In addition, corded stick vacs tend to be more powerful and don't run down, but you do have to put up with a cord.

This stick vac is basically a dustbuster with a telescopic handle and a detachable (bare) floor nozzle. It is not going to compete with a regular vacuum, but for light cleanup (e.g. kitty litter) it works just fine. I also use it on the low-pile carpeting just outside the bathroom door to pick up any stray kitty litter and it gets most of it. I don't think you'd want to use it on thicker pile carpeting or for large areas especially considering the floor nozzle has no brush roller - it really is designed for hard floors.

It does what I need -- no more kicking up dust and no more kitty litter in the bathroom (I use it every day). I am happy with my purchase.

Hoover Flair Bagless Stick Vacuum, Bagless, S2200 Review

Hoover Flair Bagless Stick Vacuum, Bagless, S2200
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
With new low pile carpeting (berber) and tile floors elsewhere in my home, this seemed to be the perfect solution and alternative to my trusty Kenmore. The Hoover was easy to handle, descent suction, fairly easy to empty the canister (albeit slightly messy as the dust/dirt tended to "fly" a bit), long electrical cord and an overall lightweight appliance easy enough to manage under tables and chairs and such. However, the third use resulted in a crack in the foot that attaches to the body - this resulted merely from preparing to turn off the machine - too much pressure when placed upright? One crack lead to another, then chunks flew off to the point that the bottom no longer stayed attached to the unit, no way to replace the part without replacing the entire base/foot - not cost effective and of course, past the 30 day return. If the hard plastic connection from foot to base were reinforced or if a preventive measure of duct tape or such around the connection were made I believe this minor adjustment would resolve this unfortunate complication. A call to Hoover netted "ah, sorry to hear of that, never heard of a problem like that before".I didn't know the one I bought for my sister had done the same thing until after I shared the details of my call to Hoover with her. She agrees it's a good concept, but plagued by an otherwise minor flaw.

Bissell 3106A Featherweight Lightweight Vacuum Review

Bissell 3106A Featherweight Lightweight Vacuum
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I wanted a lightweight, compact vacuum to use every evening after dinner on the kitchen floor. Our regular vac was too bulky to pull out for quick jobs, and we didn't have a spot to charge a cordless.I settled on the Featherweight because it was small enough to hang from my mop rack and only cost $20.

This vac is ideal for picking up dust and pet hair on wood or tile floors. However, I've found that with larger, heavier items (such as spilled dog food), the vac often has to be lifted up over the item and placed right down on top of it in order to pick it up; if I just push the vacuum over dog food, it often just pushes the dog food in front of the vacuum head instead of sucking it up.Removing the vac head and using this as a hand vac works much better for picking up dog food and the like.

I've also found that items about the size of a marble (again, spilled dog food) get jammed right behind the plastic shield covering the intake opening of the vac.To remove them I need to jam a stick back there, loosen the item and then pry it out. This is a pain in the neck that I really don't need.

Finally, there's no way to clean the dust off the filter without using your bare hands; this vac really needed just a tiny brush that attached to the unit to make dusting off the filter easier and neater. As it is, after every use I need to pull clumps of dog fur off the filter with my bare fingers - yuck!

I think that once this breaks (as I'm sure it will - it's made of quite junky plastic and doesn't seem all that durable) I'll go out and spend a bit more money on a higher quality stick vac. However, for $20 this little cheapie picks up the messes and doesn't take up too much space.

This is a fantastic little vac.It isn't as loud as my last stick vac and it doesn't scratch my wood floors. The first day I bought it I really put it through the paces.I was impressed with how well it cleans floors, carpets and rugs with fringe.I love the fact that you can turn off the roller to do the fringed rugs and floors. It picked up popcorn and screws easily.Sand and gravel from the kids shoes, no problem. After a rain, the floor got a little muddy from all the kids going in and out so I just turned on the brush and VOILA, the dried mud went right up.
It really does stand on it's own, even on a soft cushy carpet.
The only changes left to make is to lengthen the cord a bit and put a small pull-out nozzle high up on the side so I can use it for practically everything, such as dusting windowsills.I won't let my wish list ruin the review though.5 stars for the best little vac I've had yet.

Bissell FeatherWeight Vacuum, Bagless, 3106B Review

Bissell FeatherWeight Vacuum, Bagless, 3106B
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have used this every day for years (I can't remember how many--but at least four years).I recently bought a new one only because I was afraid of scratching my floors due to the rollers not turning as well as they had before.I moved the old one down to my basement work area, and use the new one in the main living areas.

I have three dogs (previously four) and two house rabbits, all of whom go through times of heavy shedding.During those times I sometimes vacuum certain areas twice a day. There has never been any maintenance problem with this vacuum cleaner. The suction is strong enough for me to do my rag rugs and area rugs, and the rollers don't scratch my wood floors. It's easy on my back, conveniently converts to a hand vac, and is easy to take out and use at a moment's notice (no tedious unwinding of long cord).

One reviewer did write that this vacuum is hard to clean.I clean mine by dumping the bulk of the debris into the trash, then vacuuming the filter periodically with my Kenmore heavy-duty vacuum cleaner. The chamber holds a lot of dust, so even when my pets are heavily shedding, I don't empty it more than every 2 - 3 days.

If I only could have one vacuum cleaner, this would be it.

Dirt Devil Swift Stick Review

Dirt Devil Swift Stick
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Bottom line ... this is a great little machine that does the work it's meant to do.I used this machine for a solid 45 minutes while vacuuming two entire floors of my home - including stairs - one of the best parts was that this machine did not over-heat as with other 'bagless' vacuums I've purchased in the recent past (which were put out into the garbage!).

I could see that the vacuum was performing from the dust and debris that was entering the dirt cup.My home has all hardwood floors with a "mud" throw at the various entrances. The vacuum works great on hardwood surfaces and also did a nice job on the thin non-slip entrance rugs.Assmebly was a snap ... literally. The vacuum is VERY lightweight which is a big plus in preventing scratches on hardwood. This vacuum also has a very quiet motor - you can actually hear the phone and/or doorbell while you're running the vacuum!

Although I'm happy with my purchase and believe this is a great little machine, I do have a couple of "CONS" but nothing that would have made me change my mind in purchasing this item had I known ahead of time about them ... (1) the cord is very short, but hey ... that's what extension cords are for, and (2) I was used to having that little 'hang-up' hole on the vacuum handle to be able to suspend the vacuum on a utility rack - this vacuum does not have that feature.I improvised and added a little leather luggage strap around the handle, and solved that 'dilemna'.Great little vacuum and a great little price!
