(More customer reviews)I needed a good working, and affordable vac to clean up my small college dorm room's carpet (It's not a very plush carpet). This vac surprised me! So far it's been working out fantastic! The long handle is detachable and so is the top head so you can convert it into the familiar dust buster. It's small enough to store under a bed in a dorm room. It has a pointed wand attachment too. This certainly isn't something you would want to use as a main vac for a house, but it's great for the dorm. The cord length seems to work great for my 16'x12' dorm room--so it does NOT operate as a cordless, so no worries about the battery dying out on you. It's bagless so the canister has to be emptied...

which brings me to my only complaint about it... everything seems to get stuck to the filter... hair, dust and dirt... so it's not just a matter of emptying the canister. You have to pick everything off the filter, and it has a tendency to get inverted so you have to pull it out to clean it good. So my suggestion is to clean it over an open trash can... and for the dust you just can't seem to pick off, use a lint roller on the filter and it seems to clean it up well. (which is why I give it 4 stars instead of 5)

Otherwise, great vac for the price paid (Approximately $20 at Wal-mart).

(More customer reviews)When I saw a commercial for the Dirt Devil BRUM, I knew I had to have it.With a cat, a dog and hardwood floors throughout our house, it seemed like the perfect solution to keep the floors clean.

I found that you had to sweep dirt into a pile, then use the side of the broom with the hole to ensure suction.It was easier to get out the dust pan.This is NOT IDEAL FOR PET HAIR.It will sweep it, but will not vacuum the pat hair.

The concept is great - a cordless broom that vacuums - but the product just didn't accomplish what it should.

(More customer reviews)The replacement battery makes the Swivel Sweeper more powerful than we ever remember it being originally.The key is to charge the new battery fully for no more than eight hours and then to NOT recharge it again until after it completely runs out of power.And then do not leave the recharger plugged in for more than eight hours.So we have had the new battery for over a month and only recharged it two or three times.
Before, we made the mistake of leaving the old battery plugged into the charger all the time.

I have now owned the product for six months.I have nothing to change in my review.I am surprised that people are having so many problems with this product.My unit still works fine; the battery holds a charge; the pole has not broken; the handle has not broken.Maybe my unit is not typical.However, you do need to have realistic expectations for this product.The Swivel Sweeper is not a new revolutionary cleaning apparatus worthy of a patent (as the info commercial implies).It is just an electric sweeper for quick clean ups.If you want the thorough results that a vacuum provides--use a vacuum.

I have owned my Swivel Sweeper for two weeks.If you are looking for something better than your dust pan, this is the product for you.If you are looking for something to replace your vacuum cleaner, you are going to be disappointed.The pros: light weight, high quality, cordless, rechargeable, easy to use, maneuverable.The cons: overpriced, can't ever replace a vacuum, time-consuming periodic cleaning.The product is just what I was looking for: a cordless, rechargeable, electric dust pan that I could keep in the kitchen next to the refrigerator and pull out twice a week and sweep the kitchen floor.I have a light colored tile floor and it shows every little particle of dirt.In addition, my cat spreads Friskies on the floor and the sweeper picks up those nicely.The Swivel Sweep is a fairly high quality product.All the parts look well designed, fairly durable (they are just plastic), and fit together well.

The Swivel Sweep is oversold on the info commercial (as to be expected).It will never take the place of a vacuum cleaner.It is not a vacuum cleaner.It creates no suction.It is simply a sweeper.I would summarize it as an electric dust pan.The product has four rotating brushes that sweep items into a small centralized dust pan with openings on all four sides.The Swivel Sweeper is much quieter than a traditional vacuum cleaner; however, one would not use it in a room with a sleeping baby as advertised--it is not that quiet.It makes a tone with medium-high pitched whine.The picture on the box shows the product being used to sweep dirt from a carpet after a house plant has been toppled--forget it!That is not a good use of this product.Use a real vacuum cleaner for that job.This product is really only effective on hard surfaces.A dust pan is not what I would use on a carpet.Yes, you could pick up small items sitting on the surface of a carpet like paper clips, but realistically, to clean a carpet adequately, one should use a vacuum cleaner with strong suction and a powerful beater brush to separate the carpet strands.The Swivel Sweeper has neither of these.The Swivel Sweep is not comparable to a real vacuum cleaner.The Swivel Sweeper has problems picking up some very small items even on hard surfaces.Sometimes an item will shoot across the floor instead of going into the dust pan.I find myself going over the same area multiple times to pick up some items (but no big deal).

Because the product is fairly new, it is a bit overpriced.I think $29 would be more appropriate.I would expect to see it at Target in a year or two for $19.95.Emptying the dust pan is easy.Cleaning the sweeper is not.The Swivel Sweeper comes with a "cleaning tool" which is nothing more than a thread cutter/seam ripper (if you know what that is).Hair (human hair) gets wound around all four brushes and needs to be periodically cut and vacuumed out.The manual says "on occasion" this cleaning need to be done.The manual indicates the battery will last 45 minutes on one charge.That seems reasonable since I am still on the original charge and have used the sweeper about 10 times.

Overall, I am pleased with the product.

(More customer reviews)This idea, the cordless sweeper, has been a great invention for those of us with non-carpeted flooring that seems to show every spec of dirt or hair. While all models out there have the basic four sweeper brushes that do a good job of picking up dirt, a tray to empty, and a rechargeable battery, the overall disappointment with this is the Ni-Cad battery it uses. This translates to low usage time since it doesn't last more than a week of casual use on a full charge, a gradual loss of sweeping power (similar to a handheld vac when the battery is dying) so that the remaining power is too weak to be useful yet you risk "memory" damage if you recharge it. Consquently, when it is losing the battery power, you have to sit it in a corner to let it die out completely, then set it on the charger. My particularly battery was utterly useless after less than 6 months. I had regular usage of my hardwood floors and I cannot find a replacement battery, even on the manufacturers website. This would be a great product if not for the battery issue.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this item knowing full well that I was taking a risk. What if it was NOT as grand as the infomercial made it out to be? Still, I'm somewhat limited physically (I'm an old bird, ok?) and I liked the idea of something lightweight to keep up with the little everyday messes at home. I share my home with two Chihuahuas and two cats. Enough said. Oh, and I live on a mountain...so "stuff" gets tracked in frequently.

This sweeper is phenomenal. I charged it up the day it arrived. After nearly two weeks of everyday use, and asking a LOT of it (cat litter, dog hair, lint, and some nails that got spilled long ago...) I find it is amazing for its size and weight. I have yet to re-charge the battery; it's still going strong. It goes everywhere, and sucks up everything effortlessly. I also love the little cleaning tool that came with it. I use it on my "regular" vacuum as well, to untangle the cat hair and such...why the big vac manufacturers haven't thought of this I don't know.

At any rate, this item is a winner. I have recommended it to everyone I know, particularly those who have pets. It's not perfect for heavy duty carpet cleaning, but on the other hand, I did use it to clean up my dogs' fleece bed after they crunched up a dry leaf all over it...guess what...it grumbled a bit, but it cleaned everything up. The easy empty feature is worth a lot to me too; and as I have arthritis, I appreciate not having to bend and crawl under furniture to sweep up.
