Dirt Devil Rechargeable Broom Vacuum Review

Dirt Devil Rechargeable Broom Vacuum
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Health scare paranoia aside, does the product work? None of the quick-clean floor products substitute for old-fashioned scrubbing on hands and knees. At least, none that I've come across.

But if you appreciate the convenience of a Swiffer-type product and ease of a hand-vacuum, but dislike the cost of Swiffer-type refill papers and the sad limitations of a hand-vac, you might find this a worthwhile quick-fix to the problem of labrador-created dust bunnies and toddler-inspired cracker crumbs.

The Rechargeable Broom Vacuum is just that -- a Dust Buster and broom all in one. Good suction and holds the charge nicely, too. A negative point because unlocking the dirt container from the motor is a bit cumbersome. On the other hand, unlike my hand-vac, I don't actually have to stick my hands into the accumulated 'ick' to empty the container.

Anything to avoid pulling out a vacuum cleaner, this product does exactly what I hoped and expected it would do. It doesn't polish the floors. It doesn't do rugs, curtains or upholstery. And while a broom and dust pan may offer the convenience of operating without an electrical charge, my back doesn't so for that, I give this one a thumb's up.

I had this vacuum stick for less the two years and it no longer holds a charge.I wrote Oreck and the all but told me to shove it. Since I had it for over a year there was nothing they could do.They do not replace the battery.

Shark Retractor Stick Vacuum - EP604 Review

Shark Retractor Stick Vacuum - EP604

I bought this to clean my laminate wood floors.I wanted something that wouldn't kill my back, was light weight, and didn't tear up my floor. This fits the bill.It is not as powerful as my upright Hoover but it's more convenient. The cord retracts which is nice.It has onboard tools and in a flash I can get into the corners and baseboards with the hose.It picks up pretty good but lint gets stuck on the little bottom wheels. Also, it is ESSENTIAL the filter be cleaned often otherwise it doesn't pick up well. The filter is easy to clean; I just take it out back and hose it off.I paid $50 for it and think it's worth it.Just be sure and clean the filter and don't expect a regular vaccum in this little guy.

For all of you reading this, understand as previously stated, this is a SWEEPER not a VACUUM!! Works extremely well for picking up things you would normally have to get a whiskbroom and dustpan for. It is QUIET, it is not for sweeping the whole carpet or hard surface floor, (although you could) It is for a quick pick up for dust bunnies, hair and spilled items such as cereal in those hard to reach areas. I would definitely recommend this to all!! Biggest thing is, you have to understand it is a sweeper, and a darn good one!! Also make sure that you charge it for 24 hours on your first charge. If you read the booklet that comes with it, you won't have any problems with it. I guess what I am trying to say is... you just need to be a little bit smarter than the sweeper!!

I bought this because I am obsessive about my floors and I used to vacuum every day. I wanted to be able to have the carpet look nice all the time without dragging out the big vacuum. This product works and meets my need. However, I bought it in March and it is now June and it seems a bit worn out. It was quiet and now it is loud. It sounds like it is breaking down....it doesnt hold a charge as long anymore but it still works. My baby is crawling now and it keeps all the little choking hazards up. I feel like it won't last much longer but I am thankful I have it right now.

Bissell : 31063 FeatherWeightTM Vacuum Cleaner Review

Bissell : 31063 FeatherWeightTM Vacuum Cleaner

I needed a good working, and affordable vac to clean up my small college dorm room's carpet (It's not a very plush carpet). This vac surprised me! So far it's been working out fantastic! The long handle is detachable and so is the top head so you can convert it into the familiar dust buster. It's small enough to store under a bed in a dorm room. It has a pointed wand attachment too. This certainly isn't something you would want to use as a main vac for a house, but it's great for the dorm. The cord length seems to work great for my 16'x12' dorm room--so it does NOT operate as a cordless, so no worries about the battery dying out on you. It's bagless so the canister has to be emptied...

which brings me to my only complaint about it... everything seems to get stuck to the filter... hair, dust and dirt... so it's not just a matter of emptying the canister. You have to pick everything off the filter, and it has a tendency to get inverted so you have to pull it out to clean it good. So my suggestion is to clean it over an open trash can... and for the dust you just can't seem to pick off, use a lint roller on the filter and it seems to clean it up well. (which is why I give it 4 stars instead of 5)

Otherwise, great vac for the price paid (Approximately $20 at Wal-mart).

It only took one use to figure out this broom was not for me.It's much heavier than a real broom, which makes sweeping even more of a chore. And it's essentially like a regular broom in that you have to sweep first - the vacuum-as-you-sweep function really didn't work for me.The only benefit is it's supposed to suck up the debris you collect, but for that to work the dust has to be lined up perfectly and you have to aim the center of the broom at it.It's a pain.I've gone back to my Swiffer-type sweepers and recently discovered microfiber dust mops, which are great.I keep looking for my perfect vacuum, but I'm beginning to doubt it exists.

I have a yellow lab that sheds like crazy. I've tried just about every type of product out there (i.e. Swiffer, Roomba, stick vacs...) This broom is fantastic. It has more power than my Oreck stick vac and the charge lasts a good deal of time. I can just hover the broom in hard to reach places over a "clump" of fur and it will pick it up. You can sweep up against walls and such to get at everything along any edge.I had an old broom vac which was ok, but this one is much improved.I would definitely recommend it!

Eureka 169B Quick Up Vacuum Review

Eureka 169B Quick Up Vacuum

I was pleasantly surprised at the ability of this little vac to pick up pet hair.Removing the handle is accomplished easily to facilitate cleaning pet hair from furniture. The vac can be operated with the revolving brush on or off by selecting the appropriate setting at the switch.
It's great for small quick cleanups on carpet or cleaning bare floors.Make no mistake, this is not a replacement for a full-size, full-power vac.As a test I used this product on a section of heavy-traffic carpet that went two weeks without cleaning. It picked up the pet hair fairly well and filled it's dust cup.I then cleaned the same section with a new Bissel Cleanview Bagless upright (I've also written a review for the Bissel). The Bissel picked up enough pet hair, dust and dirt to fill the Eureka's dust cup several times. The dust cup on the Eureka is easy to remove but messy to empty and tapping it to remove the dust results in dust flying everywhere.
Keeping in mind what it's designed for, I give the Eureka Boss Superbroom 4 stars. If you have lots of carpeting in your home, don't even consider this to be your primary vac. As a primary vac I would give it only one star.

Readivac 36310 Power Broom 2 In 1 Corded Stick Vacuum, Red Review

Readivac 36310 Power Broom 2 In 1 Corded Stick Vacuum, Red
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I reviewed so many stick vacs before settling on this one. I was a little nervous because there were no reviews yet so I had no idea what to expect....but, I couldn't be happier. This thing works really well. It has such strong suction...almost as much as my regular vac. On the box it shows a picture of the hand vac portion lifting a 2x4 piece of lumber. I haven't tried that, but I have no doubt that it would work!

After reading all the other reviews, I knew I wanted a corded vac because it seems like most of the cordless ran out of juice after 15min. Plus, it seemed like people were also complaining that the battery ones didn't have strong suction. I also wanted a crevice tool and/or a hand held attachment, which this one has.

Basically, this is like getting a stick vac and a dust buster in one. The hand held vac detaches easily from the upright portion and also comes with a crevice and a brush adapter. Very handy. I have all wood floors so I don't need a full vacuum. I also have pets and a young child so I've got dust bunnies and cheerios always on the floor. Sweeping doesn't get the dog fur. This vac gets everything. It weighs less than 5lbs and the cord is super long. there is a hanging hook on the handle and I hung it right from a nail in my broom closet...it stores up nice and easy.

So I love it. For those doing research, here is a breakdown:

Pros -
Corded - powerful and no need to worry about losing a battery charge.
Very Lightweight (4.5lbs says the box)
Detachable hand vac with two tools, a crevice and a brush. Great for the car.
Bagless - very easy to empty cup.
Filter is washable and very easy to access.
Great for wood/tile/vinyl floors. This will almost replace my broom. Dust bunnies no more!
Gentle on wood floor - I have soft wide pine floors that are really easy to scratch. This didn't leave a mark.
Great for stairs.
Has a great swivel head making it very easy to get around chair legs, tables, corners, etc. It moves very easily.
Looks pretty cool!

I have to really think about the cons. These are things that don't really bother me, but I thought I'd pass the info along for those who have different criteria.

No roller brush. - I don't have carpets so I can't really say how it would work there. There is no roller brush, but it is so powerful that I'm sure it would pick up things on the surface of a rug. It's not a replacement for a regular vac.
No storage on vac for the two attachements. - not a huge deal but it would be nice.
Doesn't stand up on it's own. - Kind of a pain, but it does hang easily from a simple nail or hook.
Loud. - If you are looking for a very quite thing, this isn't it. It's powerful so it's loud. Not as loud as a regular vac, but not much less either.
Doesn't have a super slim profile. - If you are looking for a stick vac that can completely fit under your couch, this probably isn't it. The vac can lay completely flat to the floor but the hand vac portion makes it a bit high. Only the head fits under my couch, which is fine for me as I'm more likely to move my couch to vacuum underneath.

On a side note, when you first get this, you have to attach the handle to the main unit. It just snaps into place, however MAKE SURE you turn it the right way so that the handle is facing back towards you. I thought it was threaded (like a screw) so I wasn't paying attention and attached the handle the wrong way. Once it snaps into place, you can't pull it out. I had to unscrew the back panel (around 10 screws) to remove the handle and then reattach. A major pain and there was no warning of this in the directions. It just says "Do not overtighten" which is why I assumed it was a threaded connection that could be adjusted. Once you attach the handle, you don't have to worry about it again.

Definitely recommend!

**************

Update, Sept 2010 ---- Still love this vac and it's still working great after months of use. My husband uses it for the car and says it's great for that too. Only thing.....boy is it loud! I use it all over my house so sometimes I have it plugged in for up to 20min at a time. Sometimes after a big cleaning session, my ears are ringing. I use earplugs now (no joke) and now i have no complaints. I still love it but really wish it were quieter. My 150yr old wide pine floor farm house has never been cleaner! Sorry, don't know the amps (for the person who asked...) I ditched the box a long time ago but it really is powerful.

Electrolux Pronto 2-in-1 Stick Vac - EL1000A Review

Electrolux Pronto 2-in-1 Stick Vac - EL1000A
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this relatively pricey combo vacuum with the hopes of replacing two other devices: our cordless Dustbuster and corded Hoover Stick Broom.Unfortunately the Electrolux usually sits in it charger unused as it just doesn't perform well.

PROS: looks great, lightweight, very maneuverable around and under furniture, charging base has handy light that doubles as nightlight

CONS: very weak suction, clogs easily, design flaws for removable handheld, tends to scatter dirt instead of collecting it

We have 100% hardwood floors and tile/linoleum throughout the house, and our hope was to find a cordless upright that we could use for quick jobs of sucking up pet hair and dirt around entryway doors, etc. At first glance the Electrolux seemed the perfect fit: it was cordless but could be used on floors without having to bend over, and for tight spot jobs the removable handheld unit would negate the need for our Dustbuster.Unfortuntely it just doesn't perform well at all.Even for light hair and dirt jobs the upright clogs far too easily. There is a piece of flexible tubing leading from the bottom of the vacuum to the handheld unit (the handheld snaps into place near the base and actually does the suction), and the angle of this narrow, flexible tubing is about 90 degrees and the smallest leaf or twig causes a clog. If the tubing is completely clear the suction is decent enough for very lightweight sweeping, but even at that point the spinning brush in the base of the upright unit tends to throw small debris aside before the suction can pull it up into the bag (for example, I've tried using it to clean up light amounts of stray litter debris around the cat box but it tends to just throw the litter around the floor instead of sucking it up). I find that compared to the Hoover I have to go over the same floor area with several more sweeps to and fro to get all of the hair and dirt.

Other annoyances include the inability to empty the dirt collector without removing the handheld from the upright. Also the handheld power button will not stay in an On position without holding it tightly with a finger or thumb (when using as an upright the power will stay on by itself). The mouth opening of the handheld is also much smaller than your typical Dustbuster and even for small jobs takes several more sweeps back and forth to collect the same amount of dirt of just a few sweeps with a Dustbuster.

So overall I find myself using our two older vacuums and even going to the added trouble of putting an extension cord on the Hoover to do general house vaccuming instead of even bothering to pull the Electrolux out of its stand. Even though it's cordless it just seems to take longer and more effort to get the same amount of work done. It's basically not much more than an expensive nightlight for our laundry room. I really wish I had the good experience with it I seem to see other Amazon users reporting, but alas I cannot honestly say I feel this device delivers anywhere near what it promises.

Swiffer Sweep & Vac Review

Swiffer Sweep & Vac
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Let's start off with the only major plus of this vacuum and sweeper. It is definitely lightweight so it might be worth a try if you can't handle anything heavy to help clean your floors. However, you'll still have to compromise on total cleanliness of those floors. It simply is no substitute for a stronger vac and/or sweeper. It is better than nothing, of course, but that isn't saying much.

In short, if you want something that is both a vacuum and picks up dust or dirt, you can do far better. First, consider the price (at this point, $100 or so). Even if that drops significantly, keep in mind that you have to use a rechargeable battery and keep getting sweeper cloths. You won't just be changing a reusable vacuum bag.

Also, I've yet to find a vacuum that works well for large floor spaces and ALSO runs only on batteries. For small spaces, yes - counters, tiny spills on floors, a bit of dirt, etc. But the Swiffer Sweep and Vac simply doesn't have the power of an actual vacuum cleaner and won't handle the average floor (unless the room is the size of a medium coat closet). Battery operated vacuums work fine for cars, some types of furniture and even kitchen counters but when you want to clean your kitchen or bathroom floor, you simply need more power. That is where the vacuum part of this combo falls short - it doesn't have enough power. Also, the dust cloths won't get the remaining debris.

This is based on my experience with this sweep and vac combo. Just for comparison's sake, I have teens running in and out of my house all day. We have winter here, too. But even if you have less activity than in our house, I still don't see how this vacuum could do the job.

Okay, so how about the disposable cloths? They also don't get all the dust, dirt and debris left behind by some vacuum cleaners. To test that, after using the "dusting" part of this device,I simply got down on my hands and knees and ran my hand over the floor. My hand came up covered in dust. I took a white sock and did the same thing. The sock was gray when I finished. You also have to deal with a filter. Having noted that, this might work for someone who couldn't handle a heavier vacuum cleaner or had very light dirt or dust in the home. But I doubt if the average family would find this satisfying. Save yourself the money and get a real vacuum cleaner for the same price or a bit more!

Within minutes, I was able to get my floor to pass the "touch test" by quickly vacuuming it with my reliable lightweight sweeper (electric) and by using some elbow grease and cleaning solution (made for either laminate, wood or tile floors, depending) to get rid of stains. It took far less effort than the "convenient" Sweep and Vac. No more dusty hands or gray socks after I was finished.

I do touch up my kitchen and bathroom floors almost daily and a strong vacuum cleaner along with water and a strong cloth to get any rubbed in dirt is the best method I've found so far. I also use disinfecting cleanser. It takes minutes to touch up my floors with far less effort than the sweep and vac. If I'm away form home for weeks, I have to use a bit more effort. It still isn't a big deal so I don't see the point of this "newfangled" invention (as one relative would put it).

Dirt Devil M083414 Extreme Power Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner Review

Dirt Devil M083414 Extreme Power Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner

Having just put tile throughout the house, and living with 3 dogs and 2 cats, I hated hauling out the heavy vacuum and plugging it in.And then unplugging and plugging again and again all the while dragging it around the house..This little wonder does the whole house, is light and does the job.The only complaint I could possibly have is that the dirt cup is quite small and has to be emptied frequently. This, of course, would vary depending on how much animal hair accumulates on ones floor.

I would heartily reccommend this device because of it's ease of use, lack of weight and powerful suction.
I love it and could sell them door to door they are so great.

Bissell Versus Cordless Bare-Floor Vacuum, 21R9 Review

Bissell Versus Cordless Bare-Floor Vacuum, 21R9
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am a huge fan of Bissell products and everything that I have ever bought from the company has been a roaring success in our house. We have the Bissell Quick Steamer and the Bissell Steam Mop. Both of these little vacuums get a workout in our house, but I have yet to find a cordless vacuum that I am happy with. We bought a Shark which I absolutely loved until it burned out two years later. The next investment was our Dirt Devil Vibe. The suction was great for about a month and then it just stopped picking up. Since then I have been making do with a good old-fashioned broom and pan, but I always keep my eyes peeled for a cordless vacuum that works.

Bissell sent over their new Bissell Versus Cordless Bare Floor Vacuum and I couldn't wait to open it up. As with all cordless vacuums it requires a good charging before it will work so I had to wait until the next day to use it. Upon it charging, I was ready to roll and I had two willing and messy children to help me break it in. After a morning breakfast of cornflakes (for Ethan) and Cheerios (for Emily), we had the perfect scenario for testing out this vacuum.

The first thing you will notice about this vacuum is that it is an unusual shape. The design might not make sense at first, but when you are trying to get in those crevices around your furniture, it makes complete sense. It is a V-shape design that allows you to get right against your kitchen table and chairs without having to manuever around it. It does require a little manuevering though when you are trying to get around the outer perimeters of your room, but you just line it up against the wall and push around that way.

This vacuum has great suction and within minutes, I could see that it had picked up every last little cornflake bit and Cheerio.Again, the design factor comes into play on this model because the V-shaped design helps so that you aren't scooting stuff around (as I had experienced with other cordless models) and actually suctions it into the center.

While intended for bare floors, you could also use this vacuum on low pile carpeting. The vacuum is brushless so you aren't having to deal with trapped hairs and threads underneath. Best of all, it is bagless and has any easy to release cup where you can dump out what you catch...like Cheerios or cornflakes!

I would highly recommend this vacuum and can't wait to put it to the Clark test and see if it can survive a few years of hard work in our house.

Here are a few easy tips for picking a cordless vacuum that will be a good fit for your family:

1. You will be much happier with whatever you are purchasing if you can test drive it. Borrow one from a friend or just take them through a spin in the aisle. It would be ideal if you could use it, but if you can't just try pushing it around to see if it glides easily.

2. Pick a store that has a good return policy. I knew that Target is pretty good about returns, so I picked that store. In the case of the Shark, I read a story of one lady who had went through three in a month so it is good that the return policy would allow her to do that.

3. Online stores are great and might have more affordable pricing on these, but the pure and simple fact is, if it is defective or you just plain hate it, you have to ship that back. Who wants to be running a sweeper over to the post office? Physical stores are better in this case.

4. Sometimes extras (which cost extra) aren't worth it. Stick to the basic functions and look for ones that offer the best sweeper for your money.

5. Just like all things, the highest price does not make it the best. Some of the higher priced models had a lot less power than the one I purchased.

Product Description:
Lightweight and easy to use, this cordless stick vac works great for keeping low-pile area rugs and all bare-floor surfaces clean throughout the house. Its unique V-shaped base directs large debris into the center suction path while picking up fine particles along the arms. The angle of the arms increase air flow, allowing for greater suction at the end points of the base, which means the unit captures debris that normally gets left behind in corners and other hard-to-reach areas. In addition, it provides a comfortable handle, a bagless dirt container, a low-profile base for access under furniture, and a foot-activated power switch. The rechargeable bare-floor vacuum cleaner delivers up to 20 minutes of cleaning power per charge and measures 8-4/5 by 10-1/2 by 43-1/2 inches.

Eureka 166DX Boss Lightweight Stick Vacuum Review

Here's my situation. I have a cat box in my bathroom and I really didn't like sweeping the kitty litter up every day - the broom would kick up dust and I would invariably miss a bit of kitty litter.

I needed something small, light that I could drag out and buzz around the bathroom (hard surface) with. This fits the bill perfectly. It's not exactly quiet, but not too bad either.

I don't like the rechargeable stick vacs because my closet doesn't have a power outlet and I really don't want to leave it out and look at the thing. In addition, corded stick vacs tend to be more powerful and don't run down, but you do have to put up with a cord.

This stick vac is basically a dustbuster with a telescopic handle and a detachable (bare) floor nozzle. It is not going to compete with a regular vacuum, but for light cleanup (e.g. kitty litter) it works just fine. I also use it on the low-pile carpeting just outside the bathroom door to pick up any stray kitty litter and it gets most of it. I don't think you'd want to use it on thicker pile carpeting or for large areas especially considering the floor nozzle has no brush roller - it really is designed for hard floors.

It does what I need -- no more kicking up dust and no more kitty litter in the bathroom (I use it every day). I am happy with my purchase.

Dirt Devil M083424 Accucharge Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner Review

This is a great cordless stick vac.

I use it almost daily to pick up kitty kibble crumbs, cat litter, hair form 4 cats, food bits in the kitchen, dirt and so on. It sure beats sweeping almost 1000+ square feet of tile every day. It also works great for quick cleaning area rugs (with short pile).

I have been getting about 20 minutes of charge off of it, but most of the time it doesn't take me that long to do my hard floors.

The dirt cup and filter need to be cleaned just about every day . I just pop the filter out, dump in the trash, tap the dust out of the filter, reassemble and it's ready to go again.

It is definitely NOT a replacement for a real vacuum cleaner, but it works fabulously for what it is.

Hoover Flair Bagless Stick Vacuum, Bagless, S2200 Review

Hoover Flair Bagless Stick Vacuum, Bagless, S2200
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
With new low pile carpeting (berber) and tile floors elsewhere in my home, this seemed to be the perfect solution and alternative to my trusty Kenmore. The Hoover was easy to handle, descent suction, fairly easy to empty the canister (albeit slightly messy as the dust/dirt tended to "fly" a bit), long electrical cord and an overall lightweight appliance easy enough to manage under tables and chairs and such. However, the third use resulted in a crack in the foot that attaches to the body - this resulted merely from preparing to turn off the machine - too much pressure when placed upright? One crack lead to another, then chunks flew off to the point that the bottom no longer stayed attached to the unit, no way to replace the part without replacing the entire base/foot - not cost effective and of course, past the 30 day return. If the hard plastic connection from foot to base were reinforced or if a preventive measure of duct tape or such around the connection were made I believe this minor adjustment would resolve this unfortunate complication. A call to Hoover netted "ah, sorry to hear of that, never heard of a problem like that before".I didn't know the one I bought for my sister had done the same thing until after I shared the details of my call to Hoover with her. She agrees it's a good concept, but plagued by an otherwise minor flaw.
