Bissell 37601 Lift-Off Revolution Turbo Upright Bagless Vacuum Review

Bissell 37601 Lift-Off Revolution Turbo Upright Bagless Vacuum
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
An upgrade to my last Bissell (Cleanview Deluxe),this one is even better....was ONSALE for $160, and well worth it.
Removeable canister capability is easy and makes this vac so much more versitile...such as taking out to your car or for carpeted steps. I really love the user friendly design of these Bissell vacs....never complex, and I don't feel I need a manual to understand or operate.
Super suction...and the brushes are so powerful, it almost feels self propelled as you push forward.
The 'telescoping' function of the extension wand was a nice upgrade, although it does takes a little time getting used to it...also the new dual-headed brush tool is an inovative idea i like.
Another really nice upgrade is the on/off brush power button...and the vac is now smart, even when brushes are powered ON, they wont rotate till you step on the release pedal AND pull the handle down towards you.
I also noticed you can now pull the handle down literally to the FLOOR without the front of the vac lifting up...this means being able to roll further under couches/tight spots.

If I had to give CONS :

1) There are 3 filters...1 HEPA and 2 foam...the foam filters in particular should be cleaned once a month,as directed..but I check even more often (due to high traffic/pets)... They can get pretty dirty relatively fast, and although u may not notice any loss of suction,I assume cleaning these filters often will always improve performance...... Its not hard to do, they are basically foam sponges u can rinse clean, and they dry pretty quick.

2) The vac when all together as 1 unit, is pretty heavy. Doesnt bother me, but may be an issue to some. My wife immediately noticed the weight... The canaster vac, when separated, is easy to carry with its handle, but some may still find even this a little heavy as well.
In my opinion, the weight is due to good construction and a strong motor. I think its worth it.

3) Seems like a lot of new vacs come with some form or version of a 'turbo brush' attachment. I'm not a fan of these...the brushes are SUCTION driven, NOT motor driven. Its a gimmick tool.. I prefer the simple NON turbo brush tool that come with this vac, and I let the suction power (and a little up/down motion of my own) do the work. I keep the turbo brush permanantly removed from the handle altogether. To me its just added dead weight.

4) only 1 improvenment I could think of now is a retracteable cord....

iRobot 610 Roomba Professional Series Review

iRobot 610 Roomba Professional Series
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've used the Roomba 610 and 560.I now have two refurbished 560s in our house, at the same price as one 610.And it's definitely a better value.

Before I talk about the 610, let me share what's good and bad about Roombas in general, based on my experience with both the 560s and 610:
Pros:
- You don't have to vacuum, the Roomba does it for you
- Scheduled cleanings so you don't even have to worry about it or be home to hear the noise
- Floors stay clean without much effort
- One button start it and forget about it

Cons:
- Absolute pain in the butt to clean these things. There's the two brushes, the front wheel, the spinning brush (which requires a screwdriver to remove), and the dust bin.All of these must be disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled, at least once per cleaning session.
- It's not effort free.As I said above, lots to clean, which requires 5-10 minutes each time you want to run the Roomba.
- With pets, the fur gets wrapped around EVERYTHING.Maybe without pets our cleaning of the Roomba would be easier, but the whole point of these devices is ease, and they do not deliver.

So the nice things about the 610 are:
- Easier brush cleaning than the 560.Not much easier, but easier.Hair & fur still get wrapped around the edges of the brushes and into the mechanisms, but it's 5% easier to clean on the 610.
- The accessories case and accessories. The brush cleaning tool is nice, but it doesn't clean the brush holders, where all the stuff actually gets wrapped up and is difficult to clean.

Not so good things about the 610:
- No carrying handle. This seems inconsequential, but after having a way to pick up my 560 without having to pick the whole thing up from the bottom, where all the dust and dirt accumulates, you appreciate a carrying handle. Why didn't they include this on the 610?
- Only two lighthouses. They say it can clean four rooms, but they only include two lighthouses. My experience has been that three rooms is pushing it, so unless you have small rooms two lighthouses may be OK.

So why did I get two 560s if I have so many problems?I hate to vacuum, and I'd rather clean all the brushes and edges once a day than push the vacuum around for 45 minutes. So it's a trade-off.

Read other forums and you'll see that the 610 is not recommended, it's basically a 560 with lipstick.

Bissell 20Q9 CleanView II Plus Upright Bagless Vacuum Review

Bissell 20Q9 CleanView II Plus Upright Bagless Vacuum
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Bissell 35766 CleanView II is a great vacuum. It did what was advertised. I based my decision to buy this from the reviews on amazon.com

I bought this vacuum for my apartment in NYC with two other roommates. I have wood floors throughout the apartment. And I found that this vacuum is a little too much for this. I learned that this type vacuum is great for carpets and rugs. It still did its job well on bare floors. All the components worked well, and the attachments are pretty useful.

MAINTENANCE:
You have to clean this vacuum regularly. There are about 5 parts that needs to be cleaned thoroughly. These are the plastic reusable filters separates the dust from the larger chunks crumbs that the vacuum might pick up. In order for the vacuum to operate properly these filters have to be cleaned by washing it in soapy water, scrubbed, and dried. If poor maintenance clogs the filters it WILL damage the motor.

In a roommate environment, in our apartment this proved to be a problem. Because lets face it, who likes to clean? We have a cleaning schedule to keep all the roommates do their part in cleaning. But the problem arose to who cleans the vacuum, and the vacuum was never maintained and eventually overheated the motor and broke.CONCLUSION
This is a great vacuum and I recommend it to those who have carpeted apartments. For those of us with wood floors or in a roommate situation, this is not the best vacuum to have. In fact it's best to avoid bag-less vacuums. Just go for the more traditional bag vacuum, you can all (roommates) split the cost for the bags.

I went to a local authorized repair center and learned about how bag less vacuums work and the lifespan of the affordable vacuums such as this one have.
What I learned, low-end vacuums, such as this one have about a two or more years worth of use, if maintained properly before they break. It has to do with the quality of motor that they use on these things.

I also learned about the advantages and disadvantages of bag-less vacuums. The advantages are obvious--no bags to buy to use the vacuum, and less waste--it's a bit more ecological to have a bag-less vacuum. The disadvantages are the maintenance. The vacuum needs regular thorough cleaning of its own.

iRobot Roomba Pet Series 532 Vacuum Cleaning Robot Review

iRobot Roomba Pet Series 532 Vacuum Cleaning Robot
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I received my Pet Roomba before Christmas and have been using it since. My house is a real test with 3 very long haired dogs inside most of the day. I run the Roomba every day to keep the hair down to a minimum and we've noticed the floors are much cleaner (even though I used to vacuum alot). However, if you buy this you should know that it requires frequent cleaning of the brushes, particularly the axle area where hair gets easily wrapped (pull off the end cap over the axle).By frequent I mean once or twice during the cleaning cycle. Otherwise, the brushes just stop moving leaving you with a cute robot that just drives around chasing the dogs! So this means you really should only run it when you are at home to keep it clean. I also have already cleaned the front wheel (just pops off - was really full of hair) and the side brush (unscrew the screw).Bottom line, the unit works great so long as it is kept really clean. I've got the cleaning down to a minute so it isn't too big of a deal. But if you think you are just going to run the Roomba and empty the dirt bin once in awhile, you should probably not buy it.

Product Description:
Designed especially for pet owners, the iRobot Roomba 532 vacuum cleaning robot cleans up to three standard-sized rooms on a single charge. It comes equipped with an extra set of easy-to-clean brushes, a high capacity sweeper bin for trapping even more pet hair, kitty litter or dander, and cleaning tools for ensuring both sets of brushes remain free of debris so they can perform optimally. The sweeper bin holds three-and-a-half times more debris than the vacuum bin, and counter-rotating brushes reach deep into carpets to pull out pet hair and dander.
The 2 compact Virtual Walls tell the Roomba 532 where to clean by restricting off-limit areas. When the cleaning is complete, or if the battery is running low, Roomba automatically returns to the compact, self-charging Home Base to dock and recharge. A sturdy bristle brush digs deep into carpet fibers to grab dirt, debris, pet hair and more, while a fine filter traps dust, pollen and tiny particulates inside the bin. It automatically senses and avoids stairs and other drop-offs, and even detects dirtier areas and spends more time cleaning them.
The Roomba 532 includes two interchangeable cleaning bins. The High Capacity Sweeper Bin holds three times more debris than the vacuuming bin and is ideal for use in larger spaces and dirtier, high-traffic areas, while the Vacuuming Debris Bin is ideal for routine maintenance of all floors and cleaning deep into carpet and rug fibers.
This unit measures 19-1/2 by 21-1/2 by 5 inches and weighs 12-1/3 pounds. It's backed by a 1-year limited warranty.

Electrolux Home Care 62550A Power Paw Vacuum Tool Review

Electrolux Home Care 62550A Power Paw Vacuum Tool

I just got a Dyson DC18 slim a few days ago and after reading too many reviews where people found the Dyson Mini Turbine attachment disappointing, with a few recommending the Eureka Power Paw as a better alternative, i got this item at Best Buy for $20 (the Dyson tool is $70).The Power Paw has worked very well, the vertical cleaning position is neat.It seems sturdy and simply made.

My only complaint is that it's loud with a high pitched sound, but i find it tolerable, my ears adjust after the initial jolt when it first comes on.For the price, design and good functioning, and my satisfaction with it overall, i must give it 5 stars.I'm very happy, they only had one left on the rack when i got it at the store, i lucked out.

iRobot Roomba Pet Series 562 Vacuum Cleaning Robot Review

iRobot Roomba Pet Series 562 Vacuum Cleaning Robot
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We've had our Roomba since January 2010 and approx. 6 months later, I still love it and am really glad we made the purchase. It took a little convincing for me to get my husband to agree with the purchase, but now he calls it "his vacuum", and likes to show it off to our friends and family when they come over. For us, it really has reduced my weekly in-house workload. With two cats in the house, birds, bunny, and a dog, pet hair gets tracked throughout the house. With two young children, our kitchen (hardwood floors) gets nibblets of food all over the floor.Setting the vacuum up to focus on one room (by using the virtual walls) makes a big difference.Frequently ours is venturing throughout the entire house.

The only problem we occasionally have is when it gets stuck under our china cabinet, or stuck while trying to suck up a toy that was left behind, or shoelaces hanging off a shoe left out. All very minor issues.I will say, it's a bit odd, when in the middle of the night (like last night), I get woken up by it coming into our bedroom. My guess is it gets turned on by the cats while they're running around playing at night.I hope that's all it is.;)

I will say that I do still run my other vacuum cleaner (an old Rainbow) about once a month. We have a particular rug in our living room that the pet hair gets ground in after a while and it's hard to get it up with the Roomba, but in general, the carpets look like we regularly vacuum, and you can see all it picks up when you clean it out.Note that you do have to clean it out regularly, and by that I mean, every time it's done with a cleaning. This might seem a pain to some, but it really only takes about 5 minutes to do it.It's worth it to me if it means I can program it to come on whenever I want and come home to cleaned carpets. On another positive note, it has made my kids and husband do a lot better with tidying up better.

Eureka Pet Lover Oh! Upright Bagless Vacuum, 439AZ Review

Eureka Pet Lover Oh Upright Bagless Vacuum, 439AZ
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a great little vacuum!

Assembly:
Easy-as long as you read the short, clear directions (with pictures). I was using it within 10 minutes of opening the box.

Size:
small, which is great for me. I have a 2 bedroom villa style townhome, with tile everywhere but the bedrooms and stairs. This is a great size for me; but if you have a big home, or even a moderate-sized home with a lot of carpet, this may not be the best choice for you.

Handling:
Easy again. It's light compaired to the big vacuums, but the high end of average for the little vacuums. I like it though, it self-propels easily and turns well. The only thing I don't like is you have to manually unlock the base (or "foot") from the upright position by holding it with your foot while moving the handle back/downwards.

Cleaning:
You can't get much easier than this unit when it comes to cleaning it out- you push a button, and the container pops out. The top easily twists off, and you just dump it out. The filter has to be cleaned here and there too. It's just as easy to put it back in (unlike my last vacuum... ugh)

Effective?
Absolutely. I have 3 cats- that shed allll the time. Chairs and sofas were a constant battle between us and the kitties... but now, we've WON!
the power paw is especially great.

Value:

TOTALLY worth the money! As long as you don't have a huge house with wall to wall carpet, you should give this one a try!

Consumer Reports rated an earlier version (4870) as a "best buy."By the time their articles went to print, two models 4870HG and 4870HZ, were released and neither has had a price increase.I bought the recent HZ from Amazon.com and it was delivered UPS in two days in a tall box which told me it was already assembled.Assembly for attachements and a reading the instructions was a 3 minute process. It is much quieter than my prior 1999 Hoover Bag Model and Bissell 2003 Bagless, both of which still ran but did not pick up much.It picks up so much and so fast, you won't have to waste $150 to have your carpets cleaned (assuming no embedded stains like grape juice). You will love it.There is not enough space on here to say all the great things about it.The price ended up including a second replacement bag and a replacement drive belt.Too many great features to mention here.

iRobot 110 Dirt Dog Workshop Robot Review

iRobot 110 Dirt Dog Workshop Robot
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Granted, I've had this thing for less than a week, but I can't quit raving about it.

I got the Dirt Dog for my enclosed patio, which is home to 12 messy caged parakeets and is also, of course, where my 4 cats like to hang out.I chose the Dirt Dog over the Roomba because I thought the sweeper would work better on the unfinished concrete than a vacuum unit, and it was cheaper.I liked the idea of the larger crud-holder than the vacuum, and I thought maybe it would be less tempramental, too.

The first time I turned it on, it wandered around exploring---I quickly learned that the fringed cotton rugs would have to go (no biggie, they just trap dirt anyway).I didn't move a lot of furniture---wanted to see how it would get along without much prep work on my part.

It quickly became my "Little Buddy" as it got stuck, or wrapped a string around its brushes and gently whimpered "Uh-Oh".I responded like the silly thing was one of my kids: "What's up, Little Buddy?Did you get caught on something?"Pathetic.

Anyway, he soon seemed to "learn" how to handle the edge of the platform my desk chair sits on and scoot under the shelves where the birds drop seeds & feathers.I learned to put barriers up so he couldn't get into trouble on the indoor-outdoor carpet that trends to unravel. We trained each other.

He's noisy...but I got used to it.The floor was looking better!

The cats seemed fascinated, but not afraid---they didn't freak out, just watched and stayed out of the way.At one point one of them actually sat on the floor and watched while he worked all around her.

By the time he finished, I was thrilled with my utterly brilliant purchase.I pulled out the hepa DustBuster http://www.amazon.com/review/R3DJL18LOJDRWI/ref=cm_cr_rdp_perm and sucked up what little was missed or out of his range.Walking on the floor in my bare feet, I could feel how clean it really was---as clean as it gets when I spend half a day working on it with the big Shop Vac!

Next test:The bachelor son's house, equipped with three shedding dogs.Buddy whipped back and forth under two couches and a chair, scooping up fuzzballs like a champ. He cleaned the tile, the wood, and the (unfringed) area rug.He wanted to do the bedroom carpet, but I was afraid that might be just TOO much, even for him.

Buddy's next challenge was our garage---smooth concrete, but VERY UNclean. This is what he's built for, right? We set a timer and checked up on him about every 10 minutes to make sure he hadn't gotten stuck somewhere or pulled something into his brushes that made him stop.It took him a while, and I could tell by his yellow light that he was getting really tired, but he got it CLEAN.I emptied out his "dustpan" about 5 times.Yesterday I did some spray-painting in the garage, and the whole newly-clean floor was soon covered with overspray. So I put Buddy back to work.He swept up all the fine paint dust off the floor---no whining, no dust mask, no beer break. And now all that dust isn't getting tracked into the house.I can hardly wait to turn him loose the next time there are tiny metal shavings all over the floor from some drill-press project...

TBD is how well he'll last, but can you tell I'm pretty pleased with our newest family member?

Update June 23 2007:

It's now been six months, and we're on our second "Little Buddy".After a few weeks, Buddy I began just wandering around in a circle; it turned out he had an incurable wheel issue. It IS annoying that IRobot won't cover postage on a warranty return, but it was worth the hassle to get a new Little Buddy. The house just wasn't the same without him.....

Buddy II seems to be an even better and more energetic unit than his late, lamented sibling. He has earned the weekly task of sweeping our outdoor concrete courtyard. He gets a little rambunctious launching himself at some of the potted plants from time to time, but he does a wonderful job of cleaning up dirt, dust and leaves. It still amazes me how much stuff he picks up from what appears to be a pretty clean surface.

Buddy II has also been called into service for the above-mentioned drill press project. The scene begins as I step barefoot into the garage.I return hissing, swearing and bleeding on the floor. As I head for the tweezer drawer, I snarl to my husband, "Get Buddy! You've been drilling metal again and haven't cleaned up!"So Buddy has now succesfully taken on the role of marriage counselor.

He's also been on a couple of sleepovers at friends' houses, where he delighted his hostesses by cleaning their patios, decks and garages. One friend was so impressed she asked for her own Buddy as a birthday gift.He was apparently VERY well-behaved, even without parental supervision.

Buddy continues to work tirelessly, asking for nothing but a charged battery, a clean brush and an occasional (chaperoned) date with the air-compressor.

Its 14.4-volt rechargeable NiCD battery provides the power needed to clean hard floors, shop carpets, garage and basement areas, as well as industrial-floor surfaces. Simply press the "clean" button and the unit sweeps under workbenches, cars, and other hard-to-reach places, picking up nuts, bolts, dirt, and more. For added convenience, "cliff" sensors keep it from falling down stairs or other vertical drops. The unit offers an oversized, bagless, easy-to-empty debris bin, and its power supply fully charges in seven hours. Hoover WindTunnel Self-Propelled Upright Vacuum with Pet-Hair Tool, Bagless, UH60010 Review

Hoover WindTunnel Self-Propelled Upright Vacuum with Pet-Hair Tool, Bagless, UH60010

I have two dogs, and have owned Dyson, Kenmore and other vacuums, none have lifted dirt and dog hair like this vacuum does at a fraction of the price that I had paid for the Dyson. The vacuum easily comes apart and all parts can be cleaned. The self-propelled feature is necessary since this is a heavy vacuum. The best feature for me is the ability to fully remove the agitator brush roll to remove the pet hair.Well-designed and easy to assemble and operate.Unfortunately, due to poor shipping, the vacuum box was damaged and the unit itself received some exterior damage. It might be better to find this product on sale in the store.

Product Description:
Equipped with Hoover's patented WindTunnel technology, this bagless upright vacuum cleaner effectively lifts and traps dirt and debris, so it ends up in the cleaner not scattered back out onto the floor. With red and green lights, its embedded DirtFinder system indicates areas that need more cleaning attention. The green "clean" light remains on while vacuuming except when the detector senses a larger amount of dirt; then the red "dirty" light will illuminate to suggest additional vacuuming in the area until the light changes back to green. The unit's motorized brushroll picks up even deep-down dirt in the thickest of carpeting, while its brushroll shut-off switch makes it possible to transition from carpets to bare-floor surfaces with ease. For added convenience, the vacuum cleaner comes equipped with a flexible hose and a handheld pet-hair tool with rotating brushes that effectively lifts and removes stubborn pet hair and dirt from upholstery and carpeted stairs. Other highlights include a self-propelled design for nearly effortless use and smooth maneuverability, a HEPA filter that traps up to 99.97-percent of dust and pollens down to 0.3 microns in size, an easy-empty dirt cup, and a comfortable handle with thumb-activated controls. The vacuum cleaner measures approximately 11 by 16 by 43 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Carpet Pro CPU 2T Commercial Vacuum Review

Carpet Pro CPU 2T Commercial Vacuum
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Pros: It is a reasonably priced (less than half the price of a Dyson!), reasonably quiet, has a reputation for durability, picks up cat hair (yea!), and has a nice long cord so you are not having to move your plug around every room.

Cons: Haven't found any yet... I guess the one thing some people will dislike is that it's a big yellow monster, so it doesn't have the style cachet of a Dyson or even Hoover. But it's a vacuum cleaner, so I quickly got over that.

I stressed over our vacuum cleaner purchase more than I should have. I read the Amazon reviews, Consumer Reports, Consumer Search, and any other site I could find.

At the end of the day I came down to this vacuum and the Hoover U8173 Savvy TurboPower... Amazon's reviews of the Hoover U8173 Savvy TurboPower vacuum were limited in number but all positive; however, there was a mixed story out on the web on other sites/reviews about it. There were a few others that I absolutely ruled out after finding killer issues:
Dyson: destroys berber carpets AND costs $500
Hoover Tempo: only $70 or so, but seems to have some durability issues and no onboard tools.
Eureka: Not well built based on reviews and personal experience

This Carpet Pro is thus far amazing. The night it came, I vacuumed and it picked up every piece of dirt and lots I couldn't see. It was also quiet enough that it did not wake my sleeping kids.

Three other observations:
1) I ordered this exact model - I got the CPU-2T model with on-board accessory tools.. I couldn't find that model on Amazon at the time I purchased it so I ordered it elsewhere... Glad we can order it from Amazon now.And I paid the same price WITH tools as most other stores had the CPU-2 (the model without tools) because of a 10% off coupon... The tools work well - intuitive to use and the hose is sufficiently long for me.

2) This vacuum is not well known... It took a lot of hunting to learn about it, though two reviews I read were from Vacuum repairmen, who said it was the most durable, trouble-free vacuum they see. I knew it was a bit of a risk to buy a relatively lesser known vacuum. But it is commercial grade and made by the Tacony Corporation, who also makes Riccar and Simplicity vaccuums. Two different vaccuum stores recommended Riccar to me, so I felt better about this choice as a result.

3) We have a cleaning person come for occasional "deep cleaning" of our house - she loved the vacuum. Since she is someone who has lots of experience with different choices, I thought this was a good indicator that the Carpet Pro is a keeper!

--------
UPDATE July 09: We have had this vacuum now for about 9 months, and still love it. It picks up dirt and dust as well as it did when it was new, and behaves like it is indestructible. The only thing I don't love are the bag changes - not the neatest, but well worth the effort!
--------
Update Dec 09: Still going strong - no issues, and cleans as well as the day we got it! One additional comment - it is great for pet hair - the onboard tools do a nice job of snapping pet hair up, and what it doesn't get I use a lint roller on.

Ontel One Sweep Pet Hair Remover Vacuum Attachment Review

I was skeptical when I bought this item, but I figured I would give it a shot. I have 2 siberian huskies, and needless to say, they shed A LOT! The fur vac works much better than my normal pet hair attachments on my vacuum.I've used it on my rugs, my pillows, couch, curtains, you name it, and the fur has come off easily. I no longer have to go over everything with a lint brush after I vacuum. And this saves me from having to buy another pet vacuum. My only dislike is that my hands are not big enough to easily grip the attachment with my thumb like they suggest. Otherwise this is a fantastic buy.

Remanufactured Dyson DC17 Animal Cyclone Upright Vacuum Cleaner Review

Remanufactured Dyson DC17 Animal Cyclone Upright Vacuum Cleaner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been considering a Dyson vacuum for over a year - the high price was always a concern, along with wondering if the performance was really THAT GOOD.I was hoping a friend would get one so I could borrow it, but my friends haven't cooperated! We just got a dog about a month ago, and she's started shedding, so I thought that it was the perfect time to take the plunge into the Dyson pool of satisfied customers.I was a little conflicted about the re-manufactured Dysons, but until I see how the brand performs, spending over $500 was beyond my budget.I bought from Amazon because an extra one-year warranty is included.

I ordered the vacuum YESTERDAY and it arrived today (thanks to Amazon Prime free shipping!).Assembly took about 5 minutes after unpacking all the accessories. The manual is a little strange, but you can figure it out yourself by just looking at the unit. All you have to do is put the handle with the telescoping rod into the main body.My vacuum seems to be in new condition and still has that new-plastic smell. It's actually quite pretty with its purple highlights.

Now, to the test...I had just vacuumed (previous vacuum is a Eureka) the strip of carpeting from our kitchen into the living room, which is the main high-traffic area in our house. The berber carpet is beaten down, even though it's only about 5 years old, because we walk over this area many times a day.The nap is pretty shot, so I wasn't expecting a great result. But I was surprised and pleased to see that the carpet looks cleaner after using the Dyson.

When you first turn on the vacuum, it seems quiet compared to other vacs - I have a Eureka Boss SmartVac, and the Dyson is much quieter in comparison. But it does have a high-pitched whine in operation that might bother some people, so ear plugs or a set of headphones might be a good thing.I usually listen to the radio on a Walkman (remember those??) while I vacuum, so it won't bother me.The dog doesn't seem to enjoy it, though.

I got a LOT more dust, dirt and hair up from the carpet. In fact, I wonder if all that hair is from the dog we just got, because she hasn't been here that long!OK, well, so far, so good.I emptied the bin of the Dyson, which is easy and quick, just one button and done.I changed the bag on the Eureka and vacuumed the hallway from the living room to the bedrooms. The Eureka really sucks down onto the carpet *hard* when the bag is changed, but I'm not sure it is still getting ALL the dirt. It's hard to push and feels as if I am almost pulling the carpet up as I go.

The Dyson is much easier to push and as I vacuum, I wonder if it's really even doing anything, yet once again, when I go over the same area and check the dust bin, sure enough, there is another pile of dirt, dust, and hair.I wondered as I read other reviews whether people were just not used to seeing the stuff their vacuums picked up, because of the bags, so they merely *thought* the Dyson was getting more, but my two little tests have convinced me.

I also read Consumer Reports and they do not give the Dyson a very good score, not compared to other vacuums. That gave me pause, because I do take their reviews into consideration. But this time, I'm glad I didn't let their reviews keep me from buying this machine.Everywhere I went on the 'net, it was people absolutely RAVING over their Dyson. Now I'm one of them!!

Bissell ShedAway Handheld Pet-Grooming Vacuum Attachment, 98Q1A Review

Bissell ShedAway Handheld Pet-Grooming Vacuum Attachment, 98Q1A

It's kind of big for a cat, but it works really well. The volume is adjustable and the curry style gets the hairs loose. The suction is gentle enough to not get stuck down and suck their skin but strong enough to get the hair. I use it on a Oreck cannister hand vacuum. I like this brush and so do my cats.

Product Description:
Pet owners will love the convenience of this handheld vacuum-cleaner attachment. Designed to make grooming both thorough and effortless, the unit connects to virtually any standard vacuum cleaner using the included universal adaptor, effectively removing shedding hair before it has a chance to settle on upholstery, carpeting, and rugs. The tool's flexible hose swivels to work around pets' legs and undercoat, while its unique shedding comb attracts and removes loose hairs, suctioning them away from the animal's coat. Be sure to avoid any sensitive areas and do not use the grooming tool on the pet's face, ears, or tail. Thoughtfully designed, the unit's soft handle provides a sturdy and comfortable grip, while its compact construction stores easily between uses. Effective even on thick-coated dogs, including Huskies, Golden Retrievers, and German Shepherds, the grooming tool measures approximately 13-4/5 by 4-4/5 by 4 inches.

Evolution Robotics Mint Automatic Hard Floor Cleaner, 4200 Review

Evolution Robotics Mint Automatic Hard Floor Cleaner, 4200
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I must say, I'm impressed with the mapping system on this little guy. I have a very large (20'X20') open living room/kitchen area giving plenty of obstacles to confuse it. There's a staircase (which it deftly avoids), an island, a kitchen table with chairs, a couch and a number of tables for it to go under, an area rug and a piece of curved beveled glass on the floor that serves as a stand for a fireplace (which it surprisingly does not ride up on). Also, the room is overall "U" shaped with several entryways. This is the only robotic cleaner that has been able to figure this room out in its entirety. Other things to note is the room has a large fan and high, sloped ceilings and it can still find it's way.

My Roomba did terribly. It would get stuck in one section, the Neato XV was OK but would miss some parts. This thing does a great job of freshening up the floor and getting at just about everything due to it's small size!

One thing I did not know is the Mint comes with wet and dry reusable cloths for cleaning. They are great! It does pick up a lot of stuff, even if your floors look clean it's going to find something!

Wet pads are very good and stay damp for a longer amount time than I would have imagined. The floor is drier behind the mint than if I were mopping the floor myself!

I have found some things that confuse it. It doesn't like heater vents too much, especially larger ones (like intake vents) because it thinks it is falling off of a ledge. It will eventually figure it out though. It will get stuck on vertical blinds, so you might want to block them with something and it might get stuck if it drives into an area that is very tight and it decides it can't back out. After a few runs of finding what confuses it, it pretty easy to mint-proof a room.

Noise levels are good. It drives about very quietly. It is a bumper-bot though. Which is where most of the noise comes from. Though every bump really matters as it is mapping the room.

Speed is good. Not the fastest but very efficient. It really gets at every spot in a methodical fashion. I was impressed with the final "edging" step. Once it cleans the room it will clean the edge. Not just the outside edge, but also the "inside" edges such as area rugs, tables, islands and so on.

What is the practicality of this? I wouldn't have thought much for a Swiffer bot but something about the speed and thoroughness of it's cleaning really brings out much more grime than I would get myself. I notice it gets much more cat fur than I would because it doesn't blow it out of the way before getting to it.

The personality of the bot is OK. It's more like a clinical, efficient nurse doing it's job. It isn't quite as chipper as other cleaning bots but it gets the job done.

Battery life is good. Not the fastest at charging but a long enough life to get through more than a couple rooms per charge.

Can these guys get on making a vacuum bot now?
