1.There are two filters that need to be changed every 6-12 months (yah, right...more like every three months) and they cost oh, between $38-$50 depending on where you can find them...Wal-Mart? No, they don't carry this type...Target? If you are really lucky.Sears carries them, for about $49.00 a pop...and that is just one filter...you need 2.
2.You can't empty these puppies in the house because you have to tap (more like beat) the filter on the side of the garbage can and dust goes EVERYWHERE, YUCK!So, what do you do?You take it outside to beat it in the garbage can, then with the smallest gust of wind you are covered, COVERED, I'm talking an abominable brown snowman, with dust and dead spiders and anything else you sucked up thinking it was gone forever.
3.The screen...yes, not only the filter needs to be cleaned after EVERY...and I mean with EVERY use..there is this fancy little screen that you have to pull up and pick the caked on "microdust" off of and what do you use to do that????Well, if you are on the ball (which I rarely am) you remembered your small wire brush...but if you didn't you can't really run back in the house holding this nasty dirty thing flinging yuck all over your house...so, you use your finger nail, yes, desperate times call for desperate measures.
4.It burns through belts...twice a year at least (they either break or stretch) not a huge expense, but a lame and time consuming one.
5.It looses suction, bad, after about 10-15 minutes of vacuuming, and then you have to do the whole filter cleaning all over again.
6.The attachment hose pops out ALL THE TIME.SO, you either learn to vacuum holding the hose down and in...or (more probably) you get it in there really good and pray it doesn't come out and resolute to never touch it again.
7.BOTTOM LINE:I have had this Windtunnel for about 2 years, I was not impressed the first time I used it...furious the first time I had to empty it...but I thought, well, maybe it will grow on me....Um, No.I actually stopped vacuuming, I hated it, I hated the waste of time for practically no reward, I hated the dust everywhere, I hated the expense, don't waste your time, money and sanity.
8.Okay, with all that said, I purchased a sweet little vacuum from Wal-mart a few months ago, and I have been waiting to find something wrong with it to pop up but I has not been disappointing yet.I have gone through 1 bag, (I vacuum almost everyday with 2 toddlers), but the bags are really compact I was surprised how much they hold.The light went off to change the bag and it took a whole, oh, 30 seconds for the whole process, the dirt was gone, in the garbage, just like that.And the suction is amazing.Go get this vacuum, today.Do not waist anymore brain cells on a bagless. !!!GE 12 AMP, 2 motor, home cleaning system!!!It's a canister and sucks like...well, something that sucks really, really great!Lol, I actually love to vacuum, really!Plus, the best part...it is only a little over $100.00 and it has a filter but it comes free with the bags.Cool. Get this vacuume today...now...go!

(More customer reviews)This is one heavy vacuum and it has a louder than usual noise, a pitch that hurt my ears.However, the amount of dust and lint in the canister was amazing and the "power paw" is great for stairs and furniture and the duster is really a nice feature.The way it cleans itself is so cool.Overall, I'd say this is a great vacuum, but he noise and weight take away a few stars.

(More customer reviews)My upright vac was beginning to blow some foul odors. When I removed the old filter it was dirty and brown. Time to replace the post-motor HEPA filter.

The new Filter arrived in good condition and was a genuine Bissell. The filter is sturdy and should last a while.

Before replacing the HEPA filter, I cleaned the air outlet with a sanitizing wipe. A quick change and the vac is as good as new.

Be sure to clean the other two "sponge type" filters (if your vac has them) for peak performance.

Hoover Type Y HEPA Filter Bag, Set of 2 Review

The house originally had a coal-fired hot-water boiler and I swear some of that old black dust is still lingering in dark and hidden places. Plus, the house has radiator heat and no central air, so the dust never gets captured by a filter, as it would with a forced-air system.

That's why I spend the extra money for the Filtrete Hepa bags. I just ordered two more and paid $6 for the bag and $7 for shipping (ouch), but the good news is, the manufacturer promises that these bags really do capture the wee tiny particulate matter.

Filtrete is a 3M trademark and according to Hoover's website, these Filtrete bags have three layers of filtering media and an electrostatically charged liner in the bag. It filters down to .3 microns. By comparison, a high-falutin' top-of-the-line electrostatic whole-house air filter will capture particulate matter down to .3 microns.

Plus, these cloth bags are easier to install than those troublesome paper bags and my initial observation is that the Filtrete holds a little more than its paper cousin.

Back in the day, I owned an old Hoover upright and when you turned that puppy on, a cloud of egg mites, dead skin, dander and bacteria (otherwise known and described as dust) would be launched into the air. Standing in a sunbeam, you could actually *see* the dust cloud poof out of the vacuum bag. That vacuum did little more than reposition the dirt.

Conversely, my new Hoover with a Filtrete bag installed actually captures the dust and enables one to keep their home a LOT cleaner. Despite its higher cost, I think these Hepa Filtrete bags are a very wise investment for those of us in dusty old houses.

Eureka R Style Belts Review

(More customer reviews)What can one say about a belt; it either works or it doesn't.

I've noticed complaints about the belt breaking frequently on the Eureka 4870. I think that is due in large part to the manual operation of the height adjustment.

The height should be adjusted to the highest level that actually works on the carpet being vacuumed. If it is adjusted too low, the resistance from the carpet versus the powerful motor on the 4870 stresses the belt too much and it breaks.

I've used the same belt on my 4870 for well over two years and it seems to be as good as new. I have a fairly thick carpet and adjust the height to the next to the highest position for most of the carpeted areas of the house. We have some rugs and other carpeted areas where I need to drop the height down, but usually the third level down from the highest works well on those. Properly adjusted the 4870 cleans very well, fluffs up the carpet, and extends the belt life.

The bottom line on this is if you don't stress the belt by adjusting the height too low for the carpet; the belt can last for years.

Dirt Devil Filter, for Extreme Power Stick Vacuum (2 filters) Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased a dirt devil M084100 stick sweeper. It was suggested that others bought these filters as well while purchasing the sweeper. I thought this was a good idea, so agreed to purchase them. They were only $5 or $6 so it made sense to buy and ship these under the same order. BE CAREFUL to read the suggested product, in my case the filters that I ordered do not come close to being the correct ones for my vacuum. Make sure you don't take for granted that the selected products are correct, I made this mistake. I'm sure this product will work fine, but I will not be able to use it to know for sure. The filters will probably be scrapped because it will cost me more to return them than they are worth. Save yourself $5 or $6 and make sure you get the right filters.
